James 'Jim' Joseph Leone

April 7, 1948 - Nov. 27, 2013

Copperopolis resident James "Jim" Leone died Nov. 27 at Mark Twain Medical Center. He was 65.

Mr. Leone was born in Oakland, the son of Joseph and Gladys Leone.

He was a warehouse worker for Lucky stores in San Leandro for more than 25 years.

He and his wife, Laurie Leone, moved to Copperopolis 13 years ago because they liked the area.

He enjoyed detailing old cars and caring for his cat, Rocky.

Mr. Leone was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Leone; and nephew, Michael Darcey.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Laurie Leone, of Copperopolis; mother Gladys Leone, of Hayward; his siblings and their spouses, Pat and Jack Darcey, of Newark; brothers and sisters-in-law, Merlin Bart, of Sonora Ronald and Kathi Bart, of Sebastopol, Valerie and Geller, of Santa Rosa; three nieces; one nephew; four great-nephews; several aunts and uncles; and Zack and Brett Anisko, of Copperopolis, who were like sons to him.

Donations in his memory can be made to Helping Hands, c/o St. Patrick's Church, P.O. Box 576, Angels Camp, CA 95222.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 820 S. Main St., Angels Camp.

A graveside service will be held at a later date in Copperopolis.

Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Harvia (Mundell) Parise

Feb. 4, 1929 - Nov. 24, 2013

Groveland resident Harvia (Mundell) Parise died Nov. 24 at her home. She was 84.

Mrs. Parise was born Monterey, the daughter of Harvie and Amy Mundell.

She worked as a dental assistant for an orthodontist in Monterey for 20 years.

In addition to their respective careers, she and her husband, Richard Parise, had a small farm for 23 years.

She and her husband settled in Groveland in 1993.

She was a member of several clubs and organizations in Monterey and Tuolumne County, including: the Monterey History and Art Association, a dental association in Monterey, tennis clubs, women's clubs and the Rainbow Girls.

She enjoyed tap dancing, line dancing, roller and ice skating and tennis. She placed first in the International Birdseye Commercial Painting competition in 1947. She won numerous blue ribbons at the Monterey County Fair for her still-life painting.

Mrs. Parise is survived by her husband of 53 years, Richard Parise, of Groveland; and brother-in-law, Roy Regester, of San Luis Obispo, and two nephews, Jeff Hartley and Kevin Hartley, of Monterey.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Alice Louise Sunde

April 8, 1924 - Dec. 4, 2013

Sonora resident Alice Louise Sunde died Wednesday at Avalon Care Center. She was 89.

Mrs. Sunde was born in Evanston, Ill., the daughter of Louise Matilda (Rohrer) and Bertram Augustus Watson.

She spent her childhood in Larchmont, N.Y., and later moved to Burlingame. She graduated from Burlingame High School in 1942.

After graduating from high school, she married Robert Winters. They later moved to Santa Cruz, where they raised three sons.

Mr. Winters died in the late-1970s.

She married Bruce Sunde in 1978 and moved to Twain Harte.

Mrs. Sunde was a homemaker who enjoyed entertaining friends and family, playing bridge and poker with her longtime women friends, and skiing in her younger days.

She also enjoyed golfing at Twain Harte and Mountain Springs golf courses.

Mrs. Sunde was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Bruce Sunde; her sons, Jeffrey Winters and Russell Winters; and her first husband, Robert Winters.

She is survived by her son, Steven Winters, of Palm Springs; granddaughters, Leigh Ann Gluck, of Pasadena, Nicole Winters, of Benicia, and Molly Carmel, of New York; two great-grandsons; two nieces; and stepchildren, Sally Von Bargen, Sandy Kimball, Bruce Sunde Jr., Ben Sunde and their families.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to a charity of choice.

A private service will be held.

MANCBACH - Mark Mancbach, 48, of Sonora, died Sunday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

McMAHON - Edwin McMahon, 83, of Sonora, died Saturday at his home. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
