Joan Carole 'Nonnie' Doll

Former Twain Harte resident Joan Carole "Nonnie" Doll died Nov. 26 at her home in Modesto. She was 78.
Mrs. Doll was born in Oakland, the daughter of Thelma (McKamey) and William Wall.
She grew up in the Bay Area and moved to Twain Harte in 1978 with her husband, Robert Mendoes.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Mendoes, and her second husband, William Harrison.
She settled in Modesto 15 years ago. There, she met Jerome "Jerry" Doll and they married 12 years ago.
In Modesto, they owned Doll's Sign Depot, where she was also the business administrator.
Mrs. Doll was a member of the Serendipity Club, Elks Lodge, Catholic Professional Business group, and Model A clubs in Modesto and Sonora.
She was a member of All Saints and St. Patrick's Catholic churches in Tuolumne County and St. Joseph and St. Stanislaus churches in Modesto. She was head of eucharistic ministers at Memorial Hospital in Modesto from 2005 to 2008.
Mrs. Doll was also preceded in death by her son, Rick Mendoes.
She is survived by her husband, Jerome Doll, of Modesto; daughter, Karen Cadinha, of Modesto; granddaughter, Kelly Cadinha, of Modesto; stepchildren and their spouses, Paula Busk, of Colorado, Jerry and Debbie Doll, of Discovery Bay, and Charles and Jennifer Doll, of Modesto; her siblings, Susan Fisher, of Los Angeles, and John Apley, of Berkeley; and 12 additional grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at noon Friday at All Saints Catholic Church, 18674 Cherokee Drive, Twain Harte. A reception will follow at the church.
A private burial will be at Mountain Shadow Cemetery.

JR Wesley Maughan

A memorial service for San Andreas resident JR Wesley Maughan will be held at 1 p.m. Dec. 14 at Black Creek Park Center in Copperopolis.
He died Sept. 26 in his hometown of Soda Springs, Idaho. He was 67.
Mr. Maughan was born Dec. 24, 1945, the son of Wesley R. and Anna L. Maughan.
He was in Alcoholics Anonymous for 36 years and spent his career and personal life helping others achieve sobriety.
He earned a bachelor's in psychology from Idaho State University in 1980.
Mr. Maughan worked as a drug and alcohol counselor for several years and in 1988 created Changing Echoes in Angels Camp. The facility has helped more than 7,000 people to date, his family said.
Mr. Maughan is survived by his companion of 35 years, Sandi Johnston, of San Andreas; three children and their spouses, Lynne and Jimmy Van Dinter, of Draper, Utah, Stephanie and John Orgren, of Parkland, Fla., and Dan and Cheryl Johnston, of Camarillo; sisters, Kay Maughan, of Fernley, Nev., and Jolien Barresi and her husband, John, of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada; and eight grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Seniors Citizens Center, 60 S. Main St., Soda Springs, ID 83276.

Beatrice 'Bea' (Frisk) Miller

Avery resident Beatrice "Bea" Frisk Miller died Thursday at her home. She was 92.
Mrs. Miller was born in Mountain Grove, Mo., the second oldest of 11 children born to Harry E. Frisk and Mary Gosvener Frisk.
She married Roy Patrick Miller on April 7, 1939, in Oakdale. They had two sons, Gene and Vernon Miller.
The family moved to Long Barn in the early 1940s and settled in Calaveras County in the early 1960s.
Mrs. Miller owned many restaurants in Tuolumne and Calaveras counties and also a general store in the Long Barn area. She was also the first owner of Cottage Springs Ski Resort on Highway 4.
She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Murphys.
Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Roy Patrick Miller; sisters Hazel Avis Frisk and Berniece Smith; brothers, Harry Gene Frisk and Charles Merle Frisk.
She is survived by her sons and their wives, Gene and Pat Miller, of Hathaway Pines, and Vernon and Ingrid Miller, of Cottage Springs; grandchildren, Daryl Miller, of China, Sondra Younger, of Arnold, Darin Miller, of Oregon, Tim Miller, of Idaho, Stacie Melquiadez, of Angels Camp, and Lukas Miller, of Sonora; her brother, Vern Frisk; five sisters, Fairy Hale, Genevieve Turnham, Geneva Obermeyer, Fern Rowley and Janet Frisk; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church, 65 Mitchler St., Murphys. A reception will follow.
