David L. Barr

Former Angels Camp resident David L. Barr died Oct. 31 at his home in Phoenix, Ariz., after a short illness. He was 45.
Mr. Barr was born in Watertown, N.Y., the son of Donna and Harlan "Bud" Barr.
He moved to Calaveras County in 1980 and graduated from Bret Harte High School in 1987.
Mr. Barr's family owned restaurants in Calaveras County when he was younger, and he later owned Dave's 50s Diner in Altaville from 1992 to 2005.
He enjoyed water skiing and snow skiing, surfing, and boating at New Melones Reservoir.
He left Angels Camp in 2006 and lived in a few states before settling in Phoenix, Ariz.
Mr. Barr was preceded in death by his father, Harlan "Bud" Barr; and his stepfather, John "Jack" Galvin.
He is survived by his mother, Donna Woods-Barr-Galvin; grandmother, Nancy Woods Brevig; sister, Janelle Galvin Richer, all of Glendale, Ariz.; brother, Dan Barr, of Brush, Colo.; and nephew, Daniel Barr, of Cheyenne, Wyo.
A graveside service will be held May 7 at the Masonic Section of the Mountain View Cemetery, 435 Stoker Ave., Reno, Nev.

Columbia resident Robert Eschbach died Oct. 30 at his home. He was 62.
Mr. Eschbach was born in Aberdeen, Md.
He worked as a carpenter in residential construction for 40 years.
He settled in Columbia 10 years ago.
He is survived by his siblings, James Bottage, of Elk Grove; and Christian Ryan, of Middletown N.J.

Garland Henry Hunt
March 8, 1932 - Nov. 14, 2013
Twain Harte resident Garland Henry Hunt died Nov. 14 at Avalon Care Center of Sonora. He was 83.
Mr. Hunt was born in McLoud, Okla., the son of Jannie Belle (Smith) and Melvin Henry Hunt.
He joined the U.S. Navy in March 1954 and served on the USS Sumner County for four years. He was honorably discharged in May 1955.
He married Jannette Heller in San Francisco in May 17, 1953.
Mr. Hunt worked as a clerk for the Santa Fe Railroad for about two years before moving to San Francisco, where he worked for Western Pacific Railroad for two years.
He was an insurance salesman in Southern California for about 30 years.
Mr. Hunt and his wife settled in the Oceanside area for about 50 years and traveled Bermuda and Tahiti.
He moved to Twain Harte five years ago to be closer to a friend.
Mr. Hunt enjoyed visiting downtown Sonora and local swap meets.
Mr. Hunt was preceded in death by his wife in 2002; grandson, Ryan Boone, in 1999; and son-in-law, Nick Samarin, in 2011.
He is survived by his children, Kathleen Yohe, of San Jose, Karen Samarin, of Wayne, Okla., Sandra Kelso, of Bonsall, and Kenneth Hunt, of Vista; grandchildren, Heather Yohe, Jarrod Boone, Todd Yohe, Kristine Kelso-Ruiz, Sarah Gray, Crystal Jannuzzi, Kathy Knapp and Bryan Hunt; nine great-grandchildren; and siblings, Bonnie Jones, of Oklahoma City, Okla., Yvonne Stiles, of Wayne, Kaye Hillburn and her husband, Jim, of Wayne, and Fay Thiessen, of Wayne.
A private family service is planned.

Beverly J. (Henley) Laidet
Oct. 22, 1928 - Nov. 7, 2013
Mokelumne Hill resident Beverly J. (Henley) Laidet died Nov. 7 at Jackson Gardens in Jackson. She was 85.
Mrs. Laidet was born in Standard, the daughter of Anna (McCardle) and Albert Henley.
She lived in Calaveras County for 84 years. She attended Willow Creek Elementary School and Calaveras High School.
She settled in Mokelumne Hill 56 years ago.
She married Clovis C. Laidet on June 14, 1947, in Gardnerville, Nev.
Mrs. Laidet managed a health research book company in Mokelumne Hill for 33 years.
She was treasurer of the Parent-Teacher Association, a Girl Scouts troop leader, member of the Mokelumne Hill Women's Club, a Bethel Guardian for Job's Daughters International. She was also a 35-year member of the Azalea Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and represented the grand chapter of California.
She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting, and making lab robes for cancer patients.
Mrs. Laidet was preceded in death by her husband, Clovis C. Laidet; and son, Mitchell C. Laidet.
She is survived by her sister, Nadine Rouff, of Lodi; and daughters, Laura Laidet, of Hacienda Heights, Nanette Wheeler, of Haverhill, Mass., and Eileen Laidet, of Mokelumne Hill; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
An Order of the Eastern Star service was held Monday.
