Edward Clark 'Sonny' Ellefsen

Sonora resident Edward Clark "Sonny" Ellefsen died Oct. 25 at his home. He was 69.

Mr. Ellefsen was born in Alameda, the son of Lavina and Carl Ellefsen.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War from 1963 to 1968.

He worked as a computer technician in the Bay Area for 30 years. He settled in Sonora 13 years ago.

Mr. Ellefsen enjoyed woodworking and dancing. He was a gun enthusiast and member of the National Rifle Association, Single Action Shooting Society and Mother Lode Gun Club.

He also enjoyed trains and dressing in 1850s and 1897 clothing and giving tours at the Jamestown Jail as "Constable E.C. Sonny Ellefsen."

He also worked to preserve the ditch water system in Tuolumne County.

Mr. Ellefsen was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Virginia Ellefsen, of Sonora; his son, Ken Ellefsen, of San Diego; stepchildren, Cheryl DeArmond and her husband, Rod, of Emmett, Idaho, and Michael Helton, of Seattle, Wash.; grandchildren, Tyler Ellefsen, of San Diego, Cody Green, of Moscow, Idaho, Ryan DeArmond, of Emmett, and Emily Helton, of Seattle.

Donations in his memory can be made to Railtown 1897 State Historic Park, 111 I St., Sacramento, CA 95814, or Hospice of the Sierra, 20100 Cedar Road North, Sonora, CA 95370.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Railtown 1897 State Historic Park in Jamestown.

Donald McGreal

Dec. 15, 1973 - Oct. 26, 2013

Former Jamestown resident Donald McGreal died Oct. 26 at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock after a sudden illness. He was 39.

Mr. McGreal was born in Redwood City, the son of Donna and Thomas McGreal.

He moved to Tuolumne County in 2011 and settled in Turlock later that year.

He worked as a manager at a music and book store in the Bay Area for a number of years.

Mr. McGreal was a member of Redeem Church in Modesto and Christian Heights Assembly of God in Sonora and participated in the Teen Challenge program for the past 18 months.

He enjoyed various genres of music and searching for obscure artists and records.

He also enjoyed cooking and working in the outdoors.

Mr. McGreal was preceded in death by father, Thomas McGreal.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Donna and Philip Severi, of Jamestown; his siblings and their spouses, Patrick and Katherine McGreal, of Burlingame, and Shannon and Lionel Roy, of Cupertino; his nieces and nephews, Amelia and Rory McGreal, of Burlingame, and Liam and Oskar Roy, of Cupertino; one aunt; and several cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Christian Heights Assembly of God, 13711 Joshua Way, Sonora.

Sibby Ida (Cole) Wallen

June 23, 1919 - Oct. 30, 2013

Tuolumne resident Sibby Ida (Cole) Wallen died Wednesday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 94.

Mrs. Wallen was born in Keota, Okla., the daughter of Lorena (Weston) and Edgar Franklin Cole.

She married Albert Joseph Wallen May 21, 1937, in Oklahoma. They settled in Tuolumne 57 years ago.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, baking, sewing and spending time with her family. She was a member of several churches in the area throughout her life.

Mrs. Wallen was preceded in death by her father in 1973; her mother in 1977; her husband, Albert Joseph Wallen, in 1992; son, J. Charles Wallen, in 2009; and grandson, Kye Leonard Day, in 1992.

She is survived by her children, Jeanette Bell, of Sonora; Charlene Wylie, of Tuolumne, Jackie Walraven, of Murphys, JoAnne Hansen, of Snohomish, Wash., Don Wallen, of Mililani, Hawaii, and Dianna Foyil, of Sonora; sister, Edna Stamps, of Odessa, Texas; 23 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and caregiver, Pam Anderson, of Tuolumne.

Visitation is planned for 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home Tuolumne Chapel, 18411 Bay Ave.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the same location.
