Judith May 'Judy' (Costa) Gregory

Aug. 20, 1939 - Sept. 26, 2013

Sonora resident Judith May "Judy" (Costa) Gregory died Sept. 26 at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. She was 74.

Mrs. Gregory was born in Scotia in Humboldt County, the daughter of Antone and Mabel Costa.

She married DV Gregory on March 4, 1961 at the U.S. naval base in Alameda.

Mrs. Gregory and her husband moved to Sonora in 1975.

She was a member of Women of the Moose and served as deputy grand regent of the California-Nevada region.

She enjoyed bowling, playing computers games, watching old movies and especially enjoyed watching the Oakland A's, Oakland Raiders and Sacramento Kings play.

She also enjoyed gambling at Black Oak Casino and traveling to Kauai, Hawaii.

Mrs. Gregory was preceded in death by her father, Antone Costa, in 1966; her mother, Mabel Costa, in 1992; and daughter, Jana Sardella-Gregory, in 2012.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, DV Gregory, of Sonora; her children, Lisa Lynch, of Nevada, and Derek Gregory, of Sonora; her grandchildren and their spouses, Nicole and Valos Owen, of Rancho Cordova, Sherry and Art Durden, of Vallejo, and Shawna Alexander, of Vallejo; and her siblings and their spouses, Barry and Carol Costa, of Tuscon, Ariz., and Millie Giguere, of Rhode Island, and two adopted great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home, 225 E. Rose St., Sonora. A reception will immediately at the Sonora Moose Lodge, 20921 Longeway Road, Sonora.

Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Kenneth Lee Sweet

July 13, 1945 - Sept. 12, 2013

Rail Road Flat resident Kenneth Lee Sweet died Sept. 12 in Sutter Amador Hospital in Jackson. He was 68.

Mr. Sweet was born in San Francisco, the son of James Morton Sweet and Lorena June (Mechling) Sweet.

He worked as a custodian at the San Andreas Government Center and as a community specialist at the Arc of Amador and Calaveras counties, from which he retired.

He was a member of the Rail Road Flat Community Hall and enjoyed playing cribbage and pedro.

Mr. Sweet was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Richard Sweet.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Tari Renee (Williams) Sweet, of Rail Road Flat; his children, Karen Aguilar and Patty Sweet, both of San Francisco, and Tyler and Corey Sweet, both of Rail Road Flat; siblings, Margaret Lynd, of Rail Road Flat, Thomas Sweet, of Lincoln, and Michael Sweet and Kevin Sweet, both of Rail Road Flat; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
