Marion 'Ray' Brown

July 13, 1941 - Sept. 17, 2013

Sonora resident Marion "Ray" Brown died Sept. 17 at his home. He was 72.

Mr. Brown was born in Marked Tree, Ark., and lived in Tuolumne County for 20 years. He worked as a supervisor at Diestel Turkey Ranch for 12 years.

Mr. Brown enjoyed fishing, hunting, going to the woods and gardening. He especially enjoyed tending his flowers.

Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Mary Brown, of Sonora; sons and daughter-in-law, Raymon and K Brown, of Ceres, Bobby G. Brown, of Sonora; daughters, Sheron James, of Denair, and Leshelle Hay, of Sonora; brothers, Billy Wayne Brown, of Turlock and Larry Don Brown, of Texarkana, Texas; sisters, Karen Scott, of San Diego and Kathy Speaks, of Jonesboro, Ark.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Heuton Memorial Chapel in Sonora. Burial will be at Mountain Shadow Cemetery in Sonora.

A donation in his name may be made to Hospice of the Sierra.

Lois Joy Ewen

Nov. 14, 1918 - Sept. 20, 2013

Murphys resident Lois Joy Ewen died Sept. 20 at a Riverbank hospice home. She was 94.

Mrs. Ewen was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Murphys. She was a past volunteer with Golden Harvest in Calaveras County. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, crafts and fishing.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Ewen; and her son-in-law, Doug Messer.

Mrs. Ewen is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Evelyn and Frank Peckett, of Riverbank, and Fay Messer, of Murphys; her sister, Joan Frayher, of El Cajon; five grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Buena Vista Cemetery in Murphys.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Marty Duncan

May 5, 1963 - Sept. 1, 2013

Jamestown resident Marty Duncan died Sept. 1 at his home. He was 50.

Mr. Duncan was born in Maywood, Los Angeles County, and lived in Tuolumne County for 20 years.

He worked in home health care as a caregiver for 18 years.

Mr. Duncan was a member of Harvest Fellowship.

Mr. Duncan is survived by his wife, Lisa Duncan, of Jamestown; his father, Alford Duncan, of Arizona; his mother, Patricia Duncan, of Jamestown; his son, Michael Duncan, of Jamestown; daughters, Sonya York of Sonora, and Teresa Duncan, of Jamestown; and his sister, Marvonda Duncan, of Jamestown.

No services will be held.

BEHYMER - Janiece Elaine Behymer, 57, of Sonora, died Sept. 20 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
