Billie Ann (Wright) Case

Nov. 7, 1931 - July 10, 2013

Sonora resident Billie Ann (Wright) Case died July 10 at Sonora Regional Medical Center's long-term care unit. She was 81.

Mrs. Case was born Billie Ann Wright in Mullen, Neb., to Billy and Mildred Wright.

She was a career nurse with acute care training and certification.

Mrs. Case also worked in nursing administration after earning a master's degree in business administration from Sacramento State University.

She retired in 2010, but continued to volunteer until March 2012.

She moved from Nebraska to California in 1951. She settled in Sonora 20 years ago to work at Sonora Community Hospital.

Mrs. Case was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and volunteered there.

She enjoyed reading, learning and gardening.

Mrs. Case was preceded in death by her parents, Billy and Mildred Wright; and brother, Tom Wright.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Marvin Case, of Sonora; her children and their spouses, Carol and Monte Moses, of Carmichael, Cynthia and Craig Ackerman, of Galt, Steve and Marit Case, of Carmichael, and Pam and Jerry Railsback, of Atascadero; siblings and their spouses, Wayne and Carol Wright, of Old Greenwich, Conn., and Susie De Shon and Kenneth Rockler, of St. Paul, Minn.; brother-in-law, Monte and Verola Case, of Sacramento; and sister-in-law, Lavone and Gaylord Correll, of Redwood Valley; her grandchildren and their spouses, Heather and Jay Parker, of San Clemente, Morgan and Rob Gace, of La Quinta, Kara Ackerman and Camrie Ackerman, of Loma Linda, Kaylie Ackerman and Kade Ackerman, of Galt, Katie Case, of Carmichael, Nate Garcia, of Ridgecrest, Mark and Jene' Railsback, Mandy and Ry Beardsley, and Jason and Christina Railsback, all of San Luis Obispo; and seven great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to Adventist Frontier Missions, P.O. Box 286, Berrien Springs, MI 49103.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 40 N. Forest Road, Sonora. A private family burial was held at Dambacher Mountain Memorial Cemetery.

Douglas Matheson

May 10, 1939 - July 8, 2013

Columbia resident Douglas Matheson died July 8 at his home. He was 74.

Mr. Matheson was born in Sunnyside, Wash., to Kenneth and Gladys (Tate) Matheson.

He taught psychology and was department chair at University of the Pacific in Stockton for 38 years before retiring in 2005.

Shortly after his retirement he met and married Amanda Munes. They settled in Columbia two years ago.

He was a member of the Sonora Elks Lodge, Ebbetts Pass Moose Lodge, Phi Delta Theta and the Biofeedback Society of California.

Mr. Matheson is survived by his wife of five years, Amanda Matheson, of Columbia; children, Lance Davis, of Pomona, Cesar Castaneda, of Pomona, Jason Davis, of Waco, Texas, Clint Davis, Temple, Texas, and Dennis Davis, of Hewitt, Texas; brother, James Matheson, of Everett, Wash.; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at UOP at a later date. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Melvin Donald 'Don' Murray

Dec. 9, 1933 - July 18, 2013

Sonora resident Melvin Donald "Don" Murray died July 18 at his home after a three-year battle with cancer. He was 79.

Mr. Murray was born in San Juan Bautista to Mary and Robert Murray.

He lived and worked in San Jose for a number of years before retiring to Sonora 19 years ago.

He enjoyed working on classic cars and taking road trips and cruises.

Mr. Murray is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jeraldine Murray, of Sonora; his children and their spouses, Ron and Barbara Murray, of San Jose, Dave and Sue Murray, of Sonora, Tim and Paula Murray, of San Jose, and Terri and Berry Quintarelli, of Lincoln; grandchildren and their spouses, Sean and Lucretia Murray, of Arizona, Christina Lynch, of Illinois, and Monique Murray, of San Jose; and two great-grandchildren.

Donations in his memory can be made to Hospice of the Sierra, 20100 Cedar Road North, Sonora.

No services are planned.

James Albert Rasmussen

April 8, 1953 - July 15, 2013

Soulsbyville resident James Albert Rasmussen died July 15 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. He was 60.

Mr. Rasmussen was born in Willits to Crofford and Blanche Rasmussen. He was raised in Happy Camp in Siskiyou County.

After graduating from high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and served from 1972 to 1976.

He settled in Tuolumne County more than 30 years ago. During his time in the area he worked for the Jamestown Mine, the Fiberboard plywood plant and Waste Management.

He enjoyed reading, camping, woodcutting, sports and swimming.

He volunteered with Christian Heights Assembly of God in 2009.

Mr. Rasmussen was preceded in death by his father, Crofford Rasmussen, in 1990; his mother, Blanche Rasmussen, in 2003; brother, Gregory Rasmussen, in 1986.

He is survived by his children, Aaron Rasmussen, of Hemet, Amber Rasmussen, of Tuolumne, and Joseph Rasmussen, of Tuolumne; his grandchild, Wesley Rasmussen Bates, of Hemet; former wife and caregiver, Lorraine Rasmussen Simmons, of Tuolumne; siblings, Josie Asche Blucker, of Borrego Springs, Phyllis Morring, of Mission Viejo, Paula Diggle, of Medford, Ore., Dave Rasmussen, of Happy Camp; and several nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at a later date in Happy Camp
