Jerold 'Mickey' Gleason

Sept. 24, 1948 - June 10, 2013

Lifelong Valley Springs resident Jerold "Mickey" Gleason died Monday at Mark Twain Medical Center in San Andreas. He was 64.

Mr. Gleason was born in San Andreas to Jerold and Luella Gleason.

He graduated from Calaveras High School in 1967.

He enjoyed riding his bicycle and fishing with his brothers as a young man.

Mr. Gleason worked at Brunswick Saw Mill in Toyon for 10 years. He then worked for the La Contenta Golf Club for 31 years.

He enjoyed Western films and country music and made a habit of wearing stylish suspenders.

Mr. Gleason was preceded in death by his grandmother, Beulah Gleason; and two uncles.

He is survived by his parents, Jerold and Luella Gleason, of Valley Springs; siblings, Dennis Gleason, Daryl Gleason and Naomi Lovejoy, all of Valley Springs; nephew, Daniel Lovejoy and his wife, Jennifer, of Arizona; three great-nieces, one great-nephew, of Arizona; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at La Contenta Golf Course,

Norman Whitsed

Dec. 8, 1935 - June 9, 2013

Copperopolis resident Norman Whitsed died Sunday at his home. He was 77.

Mr. Whitsed was born in Hamilton in Ontario, Canada, to Thomas and Betty Whitsed.

He attended Westdale High School and moved to New Jersey in 1966.

He worked in senior levels of foodservice management for Hunt-Wesson Foods for more than 20 years. He was also spent 10 years as vice president of sales and marketing for Serv-a-Portion, one of the largest manufacturers of portion control condiments in the United States.

Mr. Whitsed settled in the area in 1999.

Mr. Whitsed was a charter and honorary life member and former area governor of Sons in Retirement. He was named Big Sir three times. He was also secretary of the Sonora Elks Lodge for six years and was a member of the Copper Cove at Lake Tulloch Homeowner's Association.

He was active in St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Sonora.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Audrey Whitsed, of Copperopolis; his son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Danielle Whitsed, of Fairfax, Va.; grandchildren, Cassie, Jack and Caroline Whitsed, of Fairfax; brother, Roy Whitsed, of Toronto, Ontario, Canada; and many nieces and nephews in the Toronto area.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 13880 Joshua Way, Sonora. A reception will follow.

A celebration of life at the Elks Lodge will be held at a later date.

RUSHING - Roberta Ann "Bobbie" Rushing, 86, of Tuolumne, died Wednesday at Sonora Regional Medical Center's long term care unit. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Carters Cemetery, 19042 Cemetery Lane, Tuolumne. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
