Barbara June (Page) Swasey

July 14, 1928 - June 2, 2013

Sonora resident Barbara June (Page) Swasey died June 2 at her home. She was 84.

Mrs. Swasey was born in Vancouver, Wash., to Eva (Plumber) Page and Junius Page.

Her parents followed agriculture crops around the western United States and she ended up in the San Joaquin Valley at a young age and lived there until moving to the Mother Lode.

She lived in the foothills for 45 years, most recently in East Sonora for many years.

Mrs. Swasey worked as a bookkeeper for Sonora Union High School District, Job Corps and Mother Lode Bank, each for several years.

She was also an AARP tax preparer and national director of Family Motor Coach Association, representing Superior Coach, each for several years.

She was a member of Altar Society Methodist Church in Sacramento, and Sonora Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. She was past president of Freeport Manor Parent Teacher Association and USS Shaw Association.

She enjoyed camping, fishing, boating and water skiing.

Mrs. Swasey was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Elmer Albert Swasey, in 2000; sister, Jeanette DeGaugh; and her parents.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, James and Carol Swasey, of Santa Rosa, and Susan and Jack DeChambeau, of Wellington, Nev.; brother, Paul "Bucky" Page, of Spokane, Wash.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services have been held. She will be buried at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella.

Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Linda Ruth (Johnson) Shaffer

Sep. 30, 1941 - May 29, 2013

Arnold resident Linda Ruth (Johnson) Shaffer died May 29 at her home. She was 71.

Mrs. Shaffer was born in Denver to Carl and Dorothy Johnson.

She joined the U.S. Navy in 1961 and was transferred to Treasure Island, in San Francisco, before her honorable discharge in 1964.

After moving several times in the early years of her marriage, she settled in Castro Valley to raise her family.

She later moved to Brentwood, then Discovery Bay, and spent the last 10 years retired with her husband in the mountains of Arnold.

Mrs. Shaffer worked in the hotel hospitality industry until the early-1980s and then in the health insurance industry until retirement.

She enjoyed entertaining guests, reading, golf, and travel.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, John Shaffer, of Arnold; daughters, Michelle Marra, of Truckee, Sallie Smith, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Sandra Gill, of San Ramone, and Kristin Linney, of Brentwood; grandchildren Ashley Marra, of Castro Valley, Tony and Haley Marra, both of Danville, Morgan Smith, of Colorado Springs, Ciana Dennedy, of San Ramone, Emma, Megan, John and Lauren Linney, all of Brentwood, and Remington Gill, of San Ramone.

At her request, no services will be held. Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Mary (Campoy) Villasenor

Jan. 30, 1920 - May 23, 2013

Mary (Campoy) Villasenor, of Sonora, died May 23 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 93.

Mrs. Villasenor was born on Jan. 30, 1920, in Los Angeles, the daughter of Josephine (Roche) and Gus Campoy.

A professional seamstress for 60 years, she lived in Los Angeles County most of her life, moving to Sonora 10 years ago. She enjoyed sewing.

Although she couldn't swim, she loved to go deep sea fishing. She also liked playing the piano.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mark Villasenor; sisters, Josephine Campoy, Carrie Sanchez and Sarah Duarte, and her brothers, Gus Campoy, Bobby Campoy, Frank Campoy and Sal Campoy.

She is survived by her sons, Mark Villasenor, of Twain Harte, and Michael Villasenor, of San Juan Capistrano; daughters, Mary Louise Robertson, of Louisiana, Margaret Villasenor, of Twain Harte, Martha Stayer, of Sonora, Madeline Witt, of Riverside and Marsha Constanzo, of Stockton; a brother, George Campoy, of Cypress; and a sister, Betty Dunn, of Las Vegas; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

After a private family service, she will be interred beside her husband, Mark, in Pacific View Cemetery in Corona Del Mar. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Rebecca Diane Martin Shaffer

March 21, 1960 - May 28, 2013

Soulsbyville resident Rebecca "Becky" Diane Martin Shaffer, died May 28 in Palo Alto. She was 53.

She was born in Palo Alto to Russell and Shirley Martin and grew up in San Jose.

Mrs. Shaffer worked for McKinney Independent School District Avid program as a tutor in McKinney, Texas.

She moved to Soulsbyville three years ago and served as a child welfare advocate at Tuolumne County Child Welfare Services. She enjoyed painting and the outdoors.

She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Shirley Martin-Tyree and Bill Tyree, of Fairview, Texas; children, Terah Shaffer, of Frisco, Texas, and Justin Shaffer and daughter-in-law Abby, of McKinney, Texas; grandchild, Adam Shaffer, of McKinney; sisters, Sharon Martin, of Hawaii, Marie Wendell and brother-in-law Phil, of Austin, Texas, and Margo Cox, of Redwood City; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family members.

No local services are planned. Neptune Society of Northern California in Belmont handled arrangements.
