Felix Bernard Gschwend

May 4, 1926 - April 25, 2013

Pine Mountain Lake resident Felix Bernard Gschwend died April 25 at his son's home in Danville. He was 86.

Mr. Gschwend was born in Pocahontas, Ark., to Mary (Zosso) and Jerome P. Gschwend.

He joined the U.S. Army Air Forces in 1944 and served one year.

Mr. Gschwend attended Chaffey Junior College and then Mount San Antonio Junior College, where he met his future wife, Phyllis Jenkins. He then graduated from Pomona College.

Mr. Gschwend went to work as a chemist for the California Department of Food and Agriculture and lived in Riverside. He then worked for Fibreboard in Antioch for the rest of his career.

Mrs. Gschwend was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

He enjoyed sports, fishing, boating, golfing, camping, RV travelling, abalone diving, square dancing, playing cards and handiwork.

Mr. Gschwend was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jerome Gschwend, in 2001; and grandson, Nathan Gschwend, in 1998.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Phyllis Gschwend, of Pine Mountain Lake; children and their spouses, Philip and Colleen Gschwend, of Lexington, Mass., David and Laura Gschwend, of Soquel, Stephen and Karen Gschwend, of Oak Harbor, Wash., John and Salina Gschwend, of Waipahu, Hawaii, and James and Kathryn Gschwend, of Danville; grandchildren, Lucas Gschwend, of Glendale, Michael Gschwend, of San Francisco, Amber Nyquist, of Redmond, Wash., Christopher Gschwend, of San Francisco, Marcus Gschwend, of San Jose, Matthew Gschwend, of Lexington, Mass.; step-grandchildren, Estella Gerwin, of Chula Vista, and Duane Debuque, of the Midwest; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 11700 Catholic Cemetery Road, Big Oak Flat.

Leo Reyes Martinez Sr.

Nov. 5, 1925 - April 22, 2013

Former Sonora resident Leo Martinez died April 22 at a long-term care home in Stockton. He was 87.

Mr. Martinez was born to Leo Gonzales Martinez and Maria Reyes Martinez.

He served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Martinez worked as a lumber stacker for Pickering Lumber. He was also a professional boxer and fought locally and throughout California.

He enjoyed riding and training horses and playing cards.

Mr. Martinez was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and one sister.

He is survived by his children, Linda Beckem, of Payson, Ariz., Delia Martinez, of Modesto, and Leo Martinez Jr. of Merced; siblings, Robert Martinez, of Flagstaff, Ariz., Anthony Martinez, of Angels Camp, and Julia Martinez, of Flagstaff; and numerous grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Greenley and Lyons Bald Mountain Road.

SCOTT-VENTER - Lori Scott-Venter, age unknown, formerly of Sonora, died April 23 at her home in Prescott, Ariz. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
