John L. Hodge

Sept. 2, 1940 - April 9, 2013

Tuolumne resident John Hodge died April 9 at his home. He was 72.

Mr. Hodge was born in Jamestown to Bill and Lucy Hodge. He was a lifelong Tuolumne resident, graduating from Summerville High School in 1958.

He worked in the lumber industry, working multiple positions - including general manager - in nearly every department at sawmills throughout the county, until his retirement in 2003.

Mr. Hodge enjoyed sports and was a San Francisco Giants and San Francisco 49er fan. He coached Little League baseball and Pop Warner football, and rarely missed a sporting event at Summerville High School, according to family members.

He enjoyed laughing and telling stories of old times and old friends in Tuolumne.

Mr. Hodge was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, JoAnn Hodge, of Tuolumne; sons, Jim Hodge, of Tuolumne, and Jeremy Hodge, of Modesto; grandchildren, Patrick Wiebe, of Berkeley, and Meaghan and William Hodge, both of Tuolumne; siblings, Jim Hodge, of Modesto, Lorraine Freeland, of Ripon, and Paula Marr, of Tuolumne.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday at Tuolumne Veterans Memorial Hall, 18375 Fir Ave.

Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Patrick Salvatore Zabaldo

Dec. 4, 1931 - April 9, 2013

Former Valley Springs and Angels Camp resident Patrick Zabaldo died April 9 in Jackson. He was 81.

Mr. Zabaldo was born in Niagara Falls, N.Y., to Salvatore and Carmela (Conti) Zabaldo.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and worked as an architect out of San Francisco for 45 years.

He lived in Jackson the past two years, living in Angels Camp and Valley Springs for more than 20 years before that.

Mr. Zabaldo was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Sharon Zabaldo, in 2008.

He is survived by his daughter, Kara Zabaldo Cunningham, of Jackson; son and daughter-in-law, Derek and Anne Zabaldo, of Palo Alto; two grandchildren; and siblings, Sadie Zabaldo, of Utah, Josie Zabaldo, of the Riverside area, Salvatore Zabaldo, of Florida, and Carmen Zabaldo, of the Spring Valley area.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Buena Vista Cemetery, 186 Cemetery Lane, Murphys.

Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.


CARAJAN - A wake for John Carajan, 55, of Jamestown, who died March 23 at Kaiser Permanente Modesto Medical Center, will be held from noon to 3 p.m. April 27 at the Willow Steakhouse, 18723 Main St., Jamestown.

CHERLING - A memorial service for Melina Cherling, 78, of Jamestown, who died Tuesday at her home, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church of the 49ers, 11155 Jackson St., Columbia. Terzich and Wilson is handling arrangements.
