Phyllis Jean (Brownell) Kahl

Jan. 27, 1925 - Feb. 15, 2013

Valley Springs resident Phyllis Kahl died Feb. 15 at her home. She was 88.

Mrs. Kahl was born in Oakland to Paul Dalina and Geraldine Brownell.

She worked as a licensed vocational nurse at Gallo Winery in Modesto for about 15 years until she retired in 1990.

She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and taking care of her pets.

Mrs. Kahl was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Kahl; and her son, Vernon "Terry" Larry VanNatta.

She is survived by daughter-in-law, Dianna Andersen, of Copperopolis; grandchildren, Larry VanNatta and his wife Heather, of Valley Springs, and Gina Watson, of Copperopolis; and three great-grandchildren.

A private family service will be held.

Donations may be made in her memory to Hospice of Amador and Calaveras, P.O. Box 595, Jackson CA 95642.

San Andreas Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Robert 'Bobby' Todd Layne

Nov. 14, 1972 - Feb. 20, 2013

Twain Harte resident Robert Layne died Feb. 20 of a sudden illness at home. He was 40.

Mr. Layne was born in Modesto to Danny and Joanne Layne. He graduated from Twain Harte Elementary School and Summerville High School, and attended Columbia College for two years. He played golf for both high school and college.

Mr. Layne worked as a superintendent at Twain Harte for about two years, and worked on golf courses for 16 years.

He is survived by his parents, Danny and Joanne Layne, of Twain Harte; children, Michelle Layne, and Reyna Layne, of Modesto; and brother, Michael Layne, of Twain Harte

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.


KUHN - Jerry Kuhn, 66, of Sonora, died Feb. 17 in Sonora. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Zane's Iron Horse, 97 S. Washington St., Sonora.

LOWE - Louella Lowe, 92, of Groveland, died Wednesday at Pacifica Senior Living in Modesto. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

WOLDT - Jakob Woldt, 82, of Murphys, died March 3 at his home. Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements. A requiem mass will be held noon March 16 at Our Lady of the Sierra Catholic Church, 1301 Linebaugh Road, Arnold.
