Ernesto J. 'Ernie' Hernandez

June 11, 1931 - Oct. 16, 2012

Soulsbyville resident Ernesto J. "Ernie" Hernandez died Tuesday at his daughter's home in Oakdale. He was 81.

Mr. Hernandez was born and raised in Lordsburg, N.M. He moved to San Diego after marrying his first wife.

He was a member of Local No. 89, the San Diego laborer's union, and worked as a mason tender for more than 25 years.

He retired from Local No. 89 and settled in Soulsbyville in 1981.

Mr. Hernandez worked full-time for Waste Management for the past 25 years. Prior to that, he worked at the Sonora Kmart. He was also a longstanding employee at the Mother Lode Fair.

He enjoyed church and fellowship and had been involved with the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Mountain Christian Community, Chapel in the Pines and Creekside Community Revival Church. He also enjoyed visiting the flea market, local antique stores, and collecting jewelry and watches. He was an amateur appraiser.

Mr. Hernandez was preceded in death by his first wife, Alicia Hernandez, about eight years ago.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Bonnie Hernandez, of Soulsbyville; his eight children, Randy Marquez, of Kileen, Texas, Tracy Broduer, of San Diego, Roxanne "Rocky" Hernandez, of San Diego, Sammy Marquez, of Sugar Pine, David Marquez, of Tuolumne, Ernesto Hernandez Jr., of San Diego, Socrates Hernandez, of Detroit Lakes, Minn., and Chenoa Hernandez, of Oakdale; his grandchildren, Tessandra Chaves, of Los Angeles, Josh and Jeana Marquez, of Kileen, Jenee Broduer, of San Diego, Samantha Marquez, of Soulsbyville, Garrett Bowen-Marquez, of Sugar Pine, Zachary and Jordan Marquez, of Tuolumne, Ariyani Hernandez, of San Diego, and Cody Jacka, of Tuolumne; and his siblings, Demetrio, Mauro, Conrado and Gema Hernandez, all of Mexico.

A viewing will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Eproson Park in Twain Harte. If it rains, it will be held at Chapel in the Pines in Twain Harte. A memorial service will follow at 6 p.m. at Chapel in the Pines.

Warren R. Ramsay

Dec. 14, 1943 - Oct. 4, 2012

Columbia resident Warren R. Ramsay died Oct. 4 of cancer at Avalon Care Center of Sonora. He was 68.

Mr. Ramsay was born in Los Angeles and lived in Los Angeles County until settling in Columbia 24 years ago.

He served in the U.S. Navy in the early 1960s during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Ramsay worked as a laborer most of his life. He worked as a maintenance man at 49er RV Ranch for 24 years until his retirement in April. Prior to moving to Tuolumne County, he worked as a truck driver delivering aerospace parts in North Hollywood.

He enjoyed trains, especially old steam locomotives.

Mr. Ramsay is survived by his siblings, Dennis Ramsay, of Texas, Carole Downs, of Washington, and Susan Sullivan, of Southern California.

A donation in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society,

A celebration of life will be held in November.

McGuire Crematory and Funeral Services of Modesto.

JOHNSON - Sonja Johnson, 44, of Sonora, died Friday at her home. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

SOUZA - Wallace "Wally" Souza, 81, of Columbia, died Thursday at Sonora Regional Medical Center long-term care unit. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
