George Martinelli

May 15, 1935 - Aug. 9, 2012

Former Columbia resident George Edgar Martinelli died Aug. 9 at a hospital in an Espanola, N.M. He was 77.

Mr. Martinelli was born in Modesto to George and Eleanor Martinelli. He was known to co-workers as "Mr. Ed."

He is survived by his wife, Gertrude "Trudie" Martinelli, of Espanola, N.M.; brothers, Lawrence, Wallace and James Martinelli; children, Kathryn Murray-Tran, James DeBorde and Katherine Bryant; grandchildren, Sara Murray, April Murray, Alex Tran, Nicole Tran, Braylin Bryant, Trevan DeBorde, Saybrie DeBorde and Jaida DeBorde; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held in New Mexico. DeVargas Funeral Home of Espanola Valley handled arrangements.

Claudine Jones

April 28, 1928 - Sept. 12, 2012

Murphys resident Claudine Ockerman Jones died Sept. 12 at Mark Twain St. Joseph's Hospital. She was 84.

She was born in Bristol, Okla., and moved to California in the 1930s.

She settled in Calaveras County in 1992 to be closer to family.

Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by two children, Laticia Waters and Gary Lee Turley; her brother, Jay North; and sisters, Wanda Maxwell and Betty Jo Ockerman.

She was married five times and all five husbands preceded her in death.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Cathy and Jeff Rader, of South Dakota, Becky and Dave Barnes, of Murphys, Caren and Dennis Fisher, of Sacramento, and Dakota Brazile, of Oregon; her brother, David Ladd, of Oregon; her grandchildren, Morissa Garrett and Kelly Garrett, of San Luis Obispo, Charmaine Cooper, Ryan Fisher and Caitlin Fischer, all of Sacramento, Jada Barnes and Justin, both of Murphys, Kristi Brazile, of Oregon, and A.C. Barnes and his wife, Nancy, of Copperopolis; 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A private family graveside service will be held.

Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.


COLLINSWORTH - C.P. Collinsworth, 93, of Sonora, died Thursday at Meadow View Manor. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

RUTHERFORD - A memorial service will be held for William P. Rutherford, 71, of Tuolumne, at 3 p.m. Sunday at Angels Flight Winery, formerly the Old Standard Church, at 19030 Standard Road in Standard. A potluck gathering will immediately follow at the winery.
