Donald Alfred Gomez

July 19, 1931 - Oct. 1, 2012

Jamestown resident Donald Gomez died Monday at Avalon Care Center of Sonora. He was 81.

Mr. Gomez was born in Oakland to Joseph and Margaret Gomez.

He moved to Sonora with his wife, Beverly, about 20 years ago.

He enjoyed deer hunting and fishing.

For most of his life, he worked as a truck driver for Western Gillette and as an official for Teamster Union Local 70.

Mr. Gomez was preceded in death by his wife Beverly Gomez.

He is survived by his children and their spouses, Nadine and Allan Benson of Roseville, Laurie Trejo of Jamestown, and Debbie and Clint Gomez of San Leandro; grandchildren, Lana Parr, Brooke Benson, Jon Nichols, Jeff Nichols, Jeremy Nichols, Joey Nichols, LaRae Trejo, Daphnie Forwood, Jodie Truitt and Daniel Gomez; and 10 great-grandchildren.

No services are planned.

Chapel of the Chimes is handling arrangements.

Darrell Loring Seavey

Oct. 8, 1933 - Sept. 25, 2012

Sonora resident Darrell Loring Seavey died Sept. 25 at his home. He was 78.

Mr. Seavey was born in Bovina, Colo., to Floyd and Waunita Seavey.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955.

He started a saw-sharpening service while in high school and later opened a saw and lawnmower shop in Yucaipa. In the 1960s, he started a trenching and backhoe business. He later left the construction industry and became an assistant manager of a youth camp, Camp O-Ongo.

He settled in Sonora 39 years ago and worked as an apartment manager until his retirement in 1991.

Mr. Seavey was a man of many interests who never lost his technical ability, his family said. He enjoyed gardening, furniture making and reading technical books. He was a locksmith and repaired antique clocks, and practiced metal casting, ceramics and welding.

He also raised rabbits, cows, pigs, quail, pheasants and goats at various times throughout his life.

Mr. Seavey is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jessie Seavey, of Sonora; his children and their spouses, Sheryl and Bob Malo, of Redding, Ann McWhinney, of Sonora, and Brenda and Scott Franklin, of Graham, N.C.; his grandchildren, Shaun McWhinney, of Duvall, Wash., and Sarah and Jessica Franklin, of Graham, N.C.; his brother, Roland Seavey, of Calimesa; and numerous cousins.

Donations can be made to the Hospice of the Sierra, 20100 Cedar Road North, Sonora.

Private family services will be held Sunday.

Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
