Rowena Marise 'Rena' (Jones) Dacsh

Angels Camp resident Rowena Marise "Rena" (Jones) Dacsh died Aug. 13 at home. She was 89.

Mrs. Dacsh was born in Salem, Ore., the youngest child of H.R. "Farmer" Jones and Marie (Kellog) Jones.

After graduating from Salem High School in 1940, she completed post graduate courses in secretarial and business skills, including stenography.

Her first professional position was as social secretary for her father when he served several terms in the Oregon House of Representatives.

On Nov. 29, 1946, she married John Charles "Jack" Dacsh.

They moved to California in 1950 to follow Mr. Dacsh's career as a wholesale lumber salesman. Mrs. Dacsh continued her career by typing dissertations for doctoral students at Stanford.

In the 1960s she worked in Sacramento as a court reporter in the Superior Court, raising three children at the same time.

They moved to Chico in the early 1980s and she worked for Butte Community College.

After retiring from secretarial work, she became an antique dealer at the Northwest Trading Co., a co-operative antique store in Oroville.

Growing up as part of a pioneer family, she appreciated historical items. She enjoyed yard sales, flea markets and antique stores.

She also enjoyed reading. Her favorite book was "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee.

She and her husband moved to Foothill Village in Angels Camp in November 2011.

Mrs. Dasch was preceded in death by her brother, Dillon Jones.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Jack Dacsh, of Angels Camp; her children and their spouses, Carolyn (Dasch) and Darrell Jarrett, of Clear Lake, Sam and Lisa Dacsh, of San Jose, and Anne Dasch, of Mokelumne Hill; her sister, Jo Jones Morss, of Salem; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two nieces and grandnieces.
