Edmundo Gaitan Dominguez

Dec. 30, 1916 - July 22, 2012

Columbia resident Edmundo Gaitan Dominguez died Sunday at the Regional Medical Center of San Jose. He was 95.

Mr. Dominguez was born in Sonora, Texas, to Eva Gaitan and Genaro E. Dominguez.

He worked as a specifier for San Jose Steel Co. for 15 years. He and his late wife, Eustolia, built a home and retired to Columbia 37 years ago.

They resided in San Jose with their son, Elden, since 2011.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Church and Sonora Moose Lodge.

Mr. Dominguez was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Eustolia Dominguez, earlier this month; and his brothers Ruben, Hank and Efren Dominguez.

He is survived by his sons, Edmundo Dominguez Jr., of Las Vegas, Nev., Eloy Dominguez, of San Jose, Ernie Dominguez, of Las Vegas, Nev., Elden Dominguez, of San Jose, and Eric Dominguez of Reno, Nev.; siblings Hortencia Andrade-Ambers, of Milpitas; Ildefonso Dominguez, of Torrance, Raul Dominguez, of Cedar Park, Texas, Alicia Castano, of Bellflower, and Delia Espinoza, of Grass Valley; 16 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at noon Saturday at Heuton Memorial Chapel.

A graveside service will immediately follow at Mountain Shadow Cemetery.

Jana Kay (Sardella) Gregory

May 6, 1969 - July 23, 2012

Sonora resident Jana Kay (Sardella) Gregory died Monday in Sonora. She was 43.

Mrs. Gregory was born in San Luis Obispo to Albert Sardella and Kathy Holmes. They moved to Sonora when she was young.

She was a graduate of Sonora Elementary and Sonora High schools and attended Modesto Junior College and Sierra College in Rocklin.

She was a homemaker and had worked at the El Dorado Savings Bank in Twain Harte for 21 years.

She was a volunteer with Hospice of the Sierra, a member of Women of the Moose and Sierra Bible Church. She supported Sonora Cat Rescue and enjoyed reading and visiting Kauai.

Mrs. Gregory was preceded in death by her grandparents, James and Mayme Panero and Red and Albina Sardella.

She is survived by her husband of 21 years, Derek Gregory, of Sonora; her father and stepmother, Albert and Shirley Sardella, of Holland; her mother and stepfather, Kathy and Guy Holmes, of Sonora; her in-laws, D.V. and Judy Gregory, of Sonora; and her sisters, Jodi Ditler, of Sonora, and Jamie Eger, of Modesto.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sonora Cat Rescue, P.O. Box 4363 Sonora, 95370.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sierra Bible Church, 15171 Tuolumne Road, Sonora. A potluck will immediately follow at the Barajas property in Jamestown.

Arlene M. Beasley

Oct. 2, 1932 - July 23, 2012

Avery resident Arlene M. Beasley died Monday at Mark Twain St. Joseph's Hospital in San Andreas. She was 79.

Mrs. Beasley was born in South Dakota.

She and her husband, Richard, moved to Calaveras County in 1978 after his retirement.

She enjoyed traveling and worked in the Save Mart meat department for many years.

Mrs. Burns was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Beasley, in 1988.

She is survived by her partner, Richard Long, of Avery; daughters, Karen M. Burns, of Oklahoma, and Debra A. Burns of Nevada; and sister, Carolyn Smith of Minnesota.

No services will be held at her request. Interment will be held privately.

Jean (Schulte) Irwin

Aug. 28, 1929 - July 18, 2012

Sonora resident Jean (Schulte) Irwin died July 18 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 82.

Mrs. Irwin was born in St. Paul, Minn., and moved to Sonora 27 years ago with her husband, Robert Irwin, after he retired from the U.S. Forest Service.

She worked as a marriage and family counselor with Sonora Mental Health Services and in private practice for 15 years.

She was a member of several organizations through the Sonora Hills retirement community, including a book club, chorus and Columbia Kate's Lunch Bunch.

She enjoyed reading and writing and was a member of Inklings Writing Club. She had been a member and president of Unity Church. She was also a member of the American Association of University Women.

Mrs. Irwin is survived by her husband of 55 years, Robert Irwin, of Sonora; her children, Linda Gehres, of Arnold, Dana Fox, of Sebastopol, and Robert Irwin, of Sonora; her brothers, Robert Schulte, of Petaluma, and Richard Schulte, of Roseville; and her grandchildren, Ross Irwin, of Sonora, James Franklin, of San Francisco, and Jefferson Irwin, of Wilson, Wyo.

Bonnie (Stokes) Powers

Dec. 12, 1946 - July 22, 2012

Tuolumne resident Bonnie (Stokes) Powers died Sunday at her home. She was 65.

Mrs. Powers was born in Merced. She worked as a cosmetologist for 42 years.

She spent many years in Salinas before moving to Yuma, Ariz.

She moved to Tuolumne a year ago to be closer to family.

She was a member of Fivefold Fellowship Church, Love Outreach ministry, Heavenly Cruises and Equipping God's People. She volunteered as a missionary and worked to deliver Bibles to Communist countries. She enjoyed stock car racing, boating and motorcycles.

Mrs. Powers is survived by her husband of 20 years, Ardan Powers, of Yuma, Ariz.; her children, Danett Lozano, of Sonora, Stephanie Smith, of Soulsbyville, Jason Skillet, of Sonora, Suzette Rodriguez, of Castro Valley, Troy Powers, of Turlock, and Aaron Powers, of Stockton; sisters, Mary Wilson, of Yuma, Ariz., Norma Sinsabaugh, of Tuolumne, and Denna Scheller, of Sonora; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
