Llewellyn 'Bob' Francis Carpenter, Jr.

April 27, 1927 - April 26, 2012

Murphys resident Llewellyn "Bob" Francis Carpenter Jr. died April 26 at his home. He was 84.

Mr. Carpenter was born in Long Beach and was a retired salesman in the laundry service industry and U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Mr. Carpenter is survived by his wife, Louise Carpenter, of Murphys; children and their spouses Dianne Soper, of Brentwood, Kenneth and Suzanne Carpenter, of Pioneer, and Kareen and Brian Tewksbury, of Murphys; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Clifford Carpenter, of Burney.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in his name may be made to a charity of choice.

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Angels Memorial Chapel.

A private family graveside service will follow at Buena Vista Cemetery in Murphys.

Margaret Paulus

Jan. 18, 1929 - April 23, 2012

Sonora resident Margaret Paulus died April 23 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 83.

Mrs. Paulus lived in Livermore for many years before moving to Tuolumne County in 1986.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Catherine Hackenberg; and her brother, William Fleming.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Nicholas Paulus, of Sonora; her son, David Paulus; her daughter, Bonnie Warzee; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. April 30 at Callaghan Mortuary, 3833 East Ave., Livermore, with a visitation at noon.

Clement Royeski

Nov. 2, 1915 - April 19, 2012

Longtime Tuolumne County resident Clement Royeski died April 19 at Casa Viejos Assisted Living in Jamestown. He was 96.

Mr. Royeski was born in Wisconsin and lived in Tuolumne County for 78 years. He was a logger for 35 years and worked for Westside Lumber Co. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and served in Okinawa, Japan, where he received a commendation. He also served in the U.S. Air Force and built air strips as an engineer. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Tuolumne Horseshoe Club. He taught hunter safety classes and enjoyed hunting, fishing and horseshoes.

Mr. Royeski is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Rebekah Royce, of Sonora; and nephews Allan Royce, of Jamestown, and Paul Royce, of Sonora.

Susan Stone

Dec. 4, 1949 - April 23, 2012

Tuolumne resident Susan Stone died April 23 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 62.

Mrs. Stone was born in Santa Monica and graduated from Summerville High School. She lived most of her life in Jamestown. She worked as a bank teller for Security Pacific, Mother Lode Bank and World Savings.

Mrs. Stone was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Stone, in 2002.

She is survived by her parents Robert and Joyce Calvert, of Jamestown; her son and daughter-in-law, Larry "Buck" Stone, Jr. and Beth Stone, of Groveland; her daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Jess Burkett, of Tuolumne; sisters Linda Calvert, of Coalinga and Kathy Egger, of Tuolumne; and grandchildren, Alexandra Stone, Samantha Stone, Emilee Burkett and Donovan Burkett.

A visitation will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. today at Heuton Memorial Chapel.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Mountain Shadow Cemetery in Sonora.

HOFFMAN - Richard Gene Hoffman, 78, of Sonora, died April 24 at Avalon Care Center. Neptune Society of Central California in Modesto handled arrangements.
