Bear Valley resident Terry Lynn Kaiser died unexpectedly March 7 at her home. She was 55.
Mrs. Kaiser was born in Fresno, the daughter of Les and Marty Anderson, and grew up in Sacramento. She played competitive tennis in high school and moved to Modesto at age 18.
She met her husband, Dave Kaiser, at a rugby match in the fall of 1978. The couple enjoyed skiing in Bear Valley and married in July 1980.
They lived and farmed in Tracy until 1990, when they bought a house in Bear Valley. Mrs. Kaiser moved there full-time, while her husband commuted between Bear Valley and the farm until 2005, when he also moved to Bear Valley.
Mrs. Kaiser enjoyed skiing, sewing and the outdoors. At various times she worked at the Bear Valley ski shop, Lake Alpine Lodge, the cross-country center, snowmobile center and general store. She was a five-year cancer survivor.
She is survived by her husband, Dave Kaiser, of Bear Valley; children, Heidi Kaiser, of West Sacramento, and Kalin Kaiser, of South Lake Tahoe; her mother-in-law, Ida Williams, of Tracy; brothers-in-law Steve Kaiser, of Tracy, and Ed Kaiser, of Fresno; her sister-in-law, Betty Kaiser, of Capitola; and her father, Les Anderson, of Escondido.

Longtime Sonora resident Mary Marty Duer Land died March 15 at home after a long fight with cancer. She was 56.
A native of Concord, she was a teacher's aide in Columbia, Redwood Valley and Galt before going into real estate. She was a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Segerstrom of Sonora.
Her favorite things included traveling, golfing, fishing, baseball, gardening and spending time near the ocean in such places as Anchor Bay, Pajaro Dunes and Hawaii. She was also a gourmet cook.
Mrs. Land was preceded in death by her father, Martin Duer, in 1989, and her mother, Dorothy Duer, in 1990.
She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Dennis Land, of Sonora; her daughter, Jaimie N. Land, of Sonora; sons, Joshua P. Land, of San Francisco, and Caleb M. Land, of Sonora; granddaughter, Merritt Mae Land Boyce, of Sonora; sister, Roxanne Duer and brother-in-law, Robert Joiner, of Carson City, Nev.; sister, Cynthia Flagg, and brother-in-law, Dan Flagg, of Roseville; one niece and one nephew; two great-nieces and one great-nephew.
A private memorial will be held with family, and a celebration of life is planned for April 21. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Longtime Sonora resident Roland Charles "Chuck" Thode died March 13 at Sonora Re-gional Medical Center. He was 68.
Mr. Thode was born in Davenport, Iowa, and lived in Sonora for 36 years. He worked for Pacific Bell Telephone Co. for 36 years.
Mr. Thode was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses and enjoyed the ocean, cross-country skiing, gardening and the outdoors.
Mr. Thode was preceded in death by his parents, Roland C. and Charlotte Thode.
He is survived by his wife, Leona Thode, of Sonora; his daughter, Heidi Thode; his sister, Carla Alexander, of Tucson, Ariz.; and seven grandchildren.
No services will be held.

Copperopolis resident Evelina Mello Thompson died March 13 at her home. She was 85.
Mrs. Thompson was born in Richmond to Manuel and Maria Mello. She worked many years in the retail industry before retiring and moving to Copperopolis in 1975. Mrs. Thompson enjoyed parades, watering her garden, playing cards, dancing, music, movies, Portuguese festas, dogs, winemaking and tasting, sewing and San Francisco 49er football.
She is survived by her husband, Mel Thompson, of Copperopolis; her brother, Manuel Mello, of Pinole; her son, Steve Robertson, of Aptos; her daughter, Sherri Anderson, of Seattle; grandchildren, Patrick, Jack, Jane, Ian, Emily, and Luke; five great-grandchildren and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Tony; and her sister, Eva.
A memorial service will be held at noon March 31 at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Richmond, Contra Costa County.

William "Bill" White, 60, of Sonora, died March 16 at Stanford University Medical Center. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Big Valley Grace Community Church, 4040 Tully Road, Modesto.
