Audrey Holmes Fatooh

Feb. 16, 1927 - Feb. 13, 2012

Longtime Tuolumne County resident Audrey Holmes Fatooh died Feb. 13 at a Sacramento care facility. She was 84.

Ms. Fatooh was born in Eveleth, Minn., and earned a bachelor's degree in Evanston, Ill.

She married in California and raised her family in the San Francisco Bay Area. She moved to Tuolumne County in 1981, working as a legal secretary, freelance paralegal and editorial consultant

She retired at age 80.

Ms. Fatooh also wrote fiction and nonfiction and published writing style handbooks for legal and education professionals. She traveled extensively in Europe, studied art history and wrote a newspaper travel series published as "Tuolumne Neighbors."

She volunteered at Interfaith Community Social Services and the Tuolumne County Historical Society, which presented her an award for her historical novel "Idols of Gold."

Ms. Fatooh is survived by one brother; children, John, Joy, Carolyn and Kassy; and five grandchildren.

Memorials are planned in San Anselmo and Sonora.

A donation in her name may be made to the Alzheimer's

North Sacramento Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Arden Saville

Nov. 23, 1932 - Feb. 22, 2012

Dorrington resident Arden Saville died Feb. 22 at his home. He was 79.

Mr. Saville was born in South Dakota to William and Ethel Saville. When he was 9 years old, the family moved to Eureka, where his father worked in a lumber mill. The family later moved to San Pablo when the Richmond shipyards opened for World War II.

Mr. Saville became a general contractor in the Bay Area and built a home for his family in Rodeo, Contra Costa County. He also built a retreat in Camp Connell.

Mr. Saville and his wife Bonnie operated the Dorrington General Store and Gas Station in 1975. They also purchased the Dorrington Hotel and converted the gas station garage to the Lube Room Saloon, then reverted the Dorrington Hotel back to a bed and breakfast with a restaurant.

It's now on the state registry of historical points of interest.

Mr. Saville constructed his "dream home" on the Dorrington Meadow, according to his family.

He enjoyed tinkering in his shop on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, an antique car, tractors and numerous other projects.

Mr. Saville is survived by his wife of 54 years, Bonnie Saville; his sister, Ardith Edson; children and their spouses Chris and Laura Saville, Greg and Sara Saville, and Sharon and Dennis Cheney; grandchildren Darryl, Camren and Jayden Saville, Jackson, Bella and Mason Saville, Derek and Katie Cheney, and Alyssa and Jamie Turner; and two great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in his name may be made to a charity of choice.

A gathering of family and friends will be held in Dorrington Meadow in spring.

Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Annelore Mayer Maack

March 25, 1931 - March 5, 2012

Twain Harte resident Annelore Mayer Maack died March 5 at her home. She was 80.

Mrs. Maack was born in Backnang, Germany, and immigrated to the United States in 1950 with her brother, Fritz Mayer.

She worked in a bakery in Carmel for several years before she married and became a homemaker and had four children.

She was trained to be a practical nurse, or licensed vocational nurse, and provided in-home care to patients for 20 years.

Mrs. Maack and her husband John E. Maack, retired to Tuolumne County and she lived in the Sonora-Twain Harte area for 20 years. Mrs. Maack enjoyed writing books, investing in the stock market, travel and playing the piano.

Mrs. Maack was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Maack, in 1997.

She is survived by children John E. Maack Jr., Susan Smelser, Stanley Maack and Sandra Thomason; grandchildren Kassie Maack, Jonathon Maack, Bryan Maack, Katherine Maack, Austin Maack, Rhianda Smelser, Rachel Thornbury, Joey Smelser, Charles Maack and Stanton Maack; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at a later date.

Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.


BUESS - Fred Buess, 83, of Sonora, died Friday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
