Elizabeth'Betty' WoosterMarch 7, 1912 - Feb. 19, 2012 Longtime Calaveras County resident Elizabeth "Betty" Campbell Wooster died Feb. 19 at her home in Altaville. She was 99. Mrs. Wooster was born in Ducor, Tulare County, and grew up in Southern California and the San Francisco Bay Area, where her parents, Vernon and Jincie Campbell, built fruit and vegetable canneries. In 1927, the family bought the 888 Ranch, between Sheep Ranch and Mountain Ranch. She attended Calaveras High School, where she met her future husband Theodore "Buster" Wooster. After graduating from University of Southern California in 1934, she was a teacher in Beverly Hills until 1939, while Mr. Wooster was starting out in the cattle business. They were married in 1940. They lived in Sheep Ranch and together built a cattle ranching operation that included winter pasture at Copperopolis, a summer range in the Blue Mountain and Highway 4 area, and beginning in 1941 another summer ranch around Highland Lakes. When her husband died in 1979, Mrs. Wooster continued to operate the ranch for several years, before retiring. She moved from Sheep Ranch to Altaville in 1991 and lived next door to her niece and her spouse, Nancy and Don Whittle. She was a charter member of the Calaveras-Tuolumne Cowbelles, and a long-time member of the Calaveras Farm Bureau, the Calaveras-Tuolumne Cattlemen's Association and the Grange. She served on the Calaveras Unified School District Board for several years in the 1950s. Mrs. Wooster is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Kelly and Yvonne Wooster, of Copperopolis and Steven and Patricia Wooster, of Copperopolis, and Jonathan and Jane Wooster, of San Lucas, Monterey County; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. today at Angels Memorial Chapel. Private services will be held. Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.Jessie RosalieMcCutchenApril 18, 1911 - Feb. 21, 2012 Longtime San Andreas resident Jessie Rosalie McCutchen died Feb. 21 at Mark Twain Convalescent Hospital. She was 100. Mrs. McCutchen was born in Hanford and lived in San Andreas for 72 years. She moved to West Point with her husband, Jim, in 1940 and they opened the first service station in West Point. They also owned the West Point Motel and Richfield Service Station in West Point. She was a member of the Catholic Church in West Point until her husband's death in 1967. She then moved to San Andreas and joined St. Andrew's Catholic Church. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Bettencourt; and sister, Elenore Bezerra. She is survived by her son, Bill McCutchen, of San Andreas; her nephew, Richard J. Bezerra, of Soulsbyville; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at San Andreas Memorial Chapel. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Feb. 28 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in San Andreas, with interment at West Point Cemetery to follow. San Andreas Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.Notices LEE - Virginia Lee, 71, of Sonora, died Thursday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
