Ronald C. JardineMarch 27, 1934 - Jan. 25, 2012 Lifelong Sonora resident Ronald C. Jardine died Wednesday at Avalon Care Center. He was 77. Born in the old Sonora Hospital, to Carl and Roselyn Jardine, he attended Sonora Elementary and graduated from Sonora High School in 1952. He married Jocelyn Gillmore in 1954, and the couple began their family while living in a small house in Saratoga Acres. Mr. Jardine worked in the Pickering Lumber Company's office in Standard and at the Sierra Conservation Center in Jamestown before going to manage Hales & Symons' feed store, where he worked for 27 years until his retirement in 1996. He enjoyed fishing, especially in the South Fork of the Stanislaus River for Rainbow and Eastern Brook Trout, taking pack trips into the Emigrant Wilderness with his family and friends, camping at Summit Meadow. He also enjoyed sports, his favorite teams being the San Francisco Giants and 49ers. Mr. Jardine is survived by his wife of more than 57 years, Jocelyn Jardine, of Sonora; children and their spouses, Ed and Melissa Jardine, of Scottsdale, Ariz., Jeff and Sandra Jardine, of Oakdale, and Ann and Clint Ulrich, of Dayton, Nev.; siblings and their spouses, Don and Kellene Jardine, of Twain Harte, and Carlin and Pattee Jardine, of Stockton; grandchildren, David, Brian and Lauren Jardine, all of Scottsdale, Alisse and Emily Ulrich, of Dayton, Nev., and Erin Jardine, of Oakdale. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ken Jardine. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home, to be followed by a burial at the Columbia Cemetery. There will also be a gathering at 3:30 p.m. at the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Posse Grounds in Jamestown. She was 102. Born in Murphys, to Joseph and Leona Schachten, she always considered Murphys her home, although she also lived in San Francisco, Palm Springs and Loma Linda. She married Ben Ostrowski in 1939, and prior to 1970 the couple owned and managed several businesses in San Francisco, including a beauty salon, termite control company, and a construction and remodeling company. She was the chief manager at all these businesses and had to interact with city building inspectors and local politicians. She enjoyed helping others. Mrs. Ostrowski is survived by her sister-in-law, Maize Schachten, of Murphys; two nephews; one great niece and nephew; three great-great nephews; and two great-great nieces. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Ostrowski. A graveside service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Buena Vista Cemetery in Murphys. Born in Yuba City, to Frederick and Gwendolyn Thienes, He was a firefighter for many years, retiring as the San Joaquin County Fire Warden in 1993. He was an active member and frequent speaker at AA. He enjoyed fishing, history, art, traveling, cooking, gardening and animals. He lived in Sonora for 21 years. Mr. Thienes is survived by his wife of 23 years, Barbara Ivie Thienes, of Sonora; former wife, Nancy Thienes, of Stockton; children and their spouses, Jeri and John Aylward, of Walnut Creek, Steve and Rosann Thienes, of Montana, and Scott Thienes, of Clovis; stepchildren, Rod and Kathryn Spreadborough, of Acampo, Lisa Spreadborough, of Dublin, Roger Spreadborough, of Stockton, Lloyd Patterson, of Stockton, and Laurie and Jeff Silvia, of Stockton; brother-in-law, David McDonald, of Tacoma, Wash.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Janet McDonald. A celebration of life is scheduled for a later date.
