Karen Sue Lang

Crystal Falls resident Karen Sue Lang died Monday at Doctors Hospital in Modesto. She was 62.

Born in Exeter, Tulare County, to Floyd and Prue McClure, she was the office manager for Dr. Frank Whitney in Sonora for many years. She lived in Crystal Falls for about 35 years.

She enjoyed spending holidays and birthdays with her family and friends, attending country music concerts and taking road trips with her family.

She is survived by her siblings and their spouses, Wayne and Mary McClure, of Arizona, and Harry McClure and Janet Del Re, and Glenda McClure and Tom Reed, all of Modesto; adopted brother, Joe Grasso, of Tuolumne County; sons and their wives, Rob and Amy Lang, of Morgan Hill, and Cory Nunes, Jeff and Rhonda Nunes, Kevin and Melanie Nunes, and Travis and Chantha Lang, all of Oakdale; adopted son and his family, Eric Blanken Stein, of Spain; grandchildren, Katy, Brett and Scotty Lang, of Morgan Hill, and Colt, Landon, Koby, Kylie and Khloe, all of Oakdale; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Lang, Vietnam Veteran and Bronze Star recipient.

A private service is scheduled.

The Oakdale Memorial Chapel in Oakdale is handling arrangements.

Gordon

Allen Coats

April 3, 1925 - Dec. 10, 2011

Former Sonora resident Gordon Coats died Dec. 10 while on business in London. He was 86.

Born in Marysville, to Manila and T.P. Coats, he graduated from Berkeley High School in 1943 and went on to attend the University of California, Berkeley before he left to take a commission in the U.S. Navy through 1946.

He graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1947, and went on to spend a year working for the UN International Refugee Organization.

He earned his MBA from Stanford University in 1949.

In the 1950s, he started and sold an ice cream manufacturing plant in Venezuela. Shortly after marrying Patricia O'Harro in 1955 the couple moved to Cuba to start a chicken egg ranch, but were forced to leave five weeks after Fidel Castro arrived.

Upon returning to the United States, he co-founded a particle board factory, consulted for Hughes Aircraft, and began his own mergers and acquisitions finance company, for which he brokered deals like Water Pic to Teledyne, Kar Products to Sun Oil, and Portland Forge to Teledyne.

In 1975, he purchased Calaveras Asbestos in Copperopolis, which he operated until 1987, when he converted it to an asbestos landfill and sold it to Waste Management in 1990.

After 1990, he continued to work as a mergers and acquisitions consultant, assisting new companies from start up through public offering or merger, throughout the world.

Mr. Coats is survived by his daughter, Sal Coats, of Oakland; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Brenda Coats, of Sacramento; grandchildren, Evan, Emily and Ashley Coats, all of Sacramento; and numerous friends and colleagues.

A memorial celebration will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 4 at the Orinda Country Club, 315 Camino Sobrante, in Orinda.

Carl A. Elmore

Jan 15, 1920 - Jan. 22, 2012

Wallace resident Carl A. Elmore died Sunday at St. Joseph's Hospital in Stockton. He was 92.

Born in Oklahoma to Martha and John Elmore, he worked as a heavy equipment operator for many years. He lived in Wallace for the past 29 years.

He was a member of Operating Engineers 3 Union.

Mr. Elmore is survived by his wife, Wanda Elmore, of Wallace; children, Doyle Elmore, of Oregon, Paul L. Martin Jr., of Oakdale, Thomas Ray and Tony Brian Martin, both of Wallace, Doris Hudson, of Rio Del, Lavina Erlene Martin, of Jamestown, and Nena Marie Akers, of Tuolumne; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

A celebration of life is scheduled for a later date.

Raddeck 'Rad' William Wilson

Aug. 2, 1924 - Jan. 12, 2012

Lifelong Sonora resident Raddeck "Rad" William Wilson died Jan. 12 at his home. He was 87.

Born in Tuttletown, to Francis and Amy Wilson, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was stationed in India, and Korea. He was also in the Military Police.

He worked as a mechanic for many years.

He was a life member of the National Rifle Association and the Mother Lode Gun Club.

Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife of 65 years, Doris Wilson, of Sonora; children and their spouses, Ellen and Howard Sundborg, of Sonora, and Sharon and Tim Wheat, of Columbia Falls, Mont.; sister, Frances Orton, of Sonora; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

No service is scheduled.
