Arnold Flud

Oct. 28, 1960 - Jan. 5, 2012

Steven Arnold Flud died Thursday at his Sonora home. He was 51.

He lived in Sonora for about 25 years. He worked as a tree climber most of his life until a limb fell, injuring his neck. Then he worked as a handyman when he was able.

His interests included riding his motorcycle.

Mr. Flud was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Thomason, in 2008; his grandmother, Kathryn Reeves, in 1975; and grandparents, Nathan Flud in 1972 and Ruby Flud in 1997.

He is survived by his mother, Juanita Thomason, of Sonora; a sister, Cindi Owens, of Sonora; brother, Alan Flud, of Sonora; stepbrother, Ted Thomason, of Sonora; sisters-in-law, Roz Flud and Ann Wever, both of Sonora; and several nieces and nephews, all of Sonora.

Services are pending. Donations may be made in his name to a charity of choice.

Arthur Blume

Sept. 16, 1921 - Jan. 6, 2012

Arnold resident Robert Arthur Blume died Friday at his home. He was 90.

Born in Osakis, Wis., to Ruth and Arthur Blume, he owned and operated a used car dealership in South California for 30 years.

He lived in Pico Rivera for 30 years and in Arnold for 33 years.

He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Arnold, and was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge, five of which he was a member of the Ophir Bear Mountain Masonic Lodge 33 in Murphys.

Mr. Blume is survived by his wife of 69 years, Audrey Blume, of Arnold; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Lori Blume, of Yorba Linda, and Steven and Karen Blume, of Eastvale; six children; and 10 great-grandchildren.

No service is scheduled.

Lorraine Koppal

Dec. 18, 1919 - Jan. 1, 2012

Betty Lorraine Koppal died Monday at Avalon Care Center in Sonora. She was 92.

She was born in North Prairie, Wis., to Grace and Worley Scott.

A retired production worker in electronics, she was active in the Church of the Ascension in Copperopolis. She enjoyed playing cards and was an avid reader.

Mrs. Koppal was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Koppal, and sister, Dorothy Hanson.

She is survived by her son, Joseph Koppal Jr., of Bolinas; her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Paul Kemper, of Copperopolis; grandchildren, Daniel Kemper, of Prunedale, Tamara McCaig, of La Grange, and Christopher Kemper, of Modesto; eight great-grandchildren, a sister, Sadie Riddle, of Maryland; and two brothers, Charles Scott, of Richmond, Va., and Gene Hummel, of Harrisburg, Pa..

Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home in Sonora. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo.

Margery 'Margie' Dell Laidet

Aug. 10, 1930 - Jan. 7, 2012

Margery "Margie" Dell Laidet, of Mokelumne Hill, died Saturday at Mark Twain St. Joseph's Hospital in San Andreas. She was 81.

She was born in Klamath Falls, Ore., the daughter of Clyde Henry Modrell and Blanche Goldie Stoltz.

Mrs. Laidet was a 61-year resident of Mokelumne Hill and a retired bookkeeper.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Allen Laidet, of Mokelumne Hill; a sister, Iris Aparacio and her husband, Joe, of Sutter Creek; a sister-in-law, Bernice Black and her husband, Rob, of Altaville; a sister-in-law, Helen Clement and her husband, Dennis, of Rancho Cordova, and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be private with interment at Mokelumne Hill Protestant Cemetery. San Andreas Memorial Chapel handled arrangements.

Janet Ellen Wood

Oct. 27, 1953 - Dec. 29, 2011

Murphys resident Janet Ellen Wood died Dec. 29 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Stockton. She was 58.

Born in Chelsea, Mass., to Elizabeth and Cecil Wood, she lived in Murphys for the past 18 years, where she worked as a waitress for various restaurants throughout the community.

She is survived by her companion, Scott Davis, of Murphys; and siblings, Ronald R. Wood, of Columbia, S.C., Edwin P. Wood, of Virginia Beach, Va., Kenneth E. Wood, of Newport News, Va., and Phyllis E. Szymanski and Patricia Petersen, both of Norfolk, Va.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

Inurnment will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Virginia Beach, Va.

Louise Gorman

May 5, 1923 - Jan. 3, 2012

Former Tuolumne County resident Ruth Louise Gorman died Jan. 3 at Sutter Amador Hospital in Jackson after a long illness. She was 88.

She was born in Detroit, Mich., to Ralph and Emma Chauvin, the second eldest of six children.

She moved to Oakland with her family during the 1930s. That's where she met and married her husband of 56 years, Harry Donald Gorman. They had two children.

In 1966, the couple moved to Tuolumne County, which had long been the family's favorite vacation destination. They lived in Tuolumne County until relocating to Oakdale in 1994. In 2007, she moved to Jackson with her son, Stephen, and his wife, Carol.

Mrs. Gorman had a variety of interests and hobbies including crafts, knitting, trout fishing, camping, antiqueing and gardening. During her final years, when illness prevented her from most physical activities, she became an avid reader.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gorman was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; her daughter, Carol Ann Pulley; sisters, Betty Pisani and Jeanne Kerr; and brothers, Tony Chauvin and Tom Chauvin.

She is survived by her son, Stephen Gorman, of Jackson; her brother, Jack Chauvin, of Walnut Creek; granddaughters, Michelle Cesar and husband, Ron, of Fremont, Debby Miller, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Rebecca Rodgers and husband, Bill, of Cedar Fals, Iowa; five great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Sonora.

Donations can be made in her name to Amador Lifeline, 935 S. Highway 49, Jackson, CA 95642.

Purdita Gene 'Pert' Allen

Oct. 9, 1922 - Dec. 26, 2011

Purdita Gene "Pert" Allen, of Sonora, died Dec. 26 at Sonora Regional Medical Center's Unit 7 long term care center, where she lived for the past seven years. She was 89.

She was born on Oct. 9, 1922, in Minneapolis, Minn., the daughter of Dewey and Chic Hagman.

She was retired from a career as an executive secretary in the real estate and advertising fields and she wrote poetry.

She moved to California from Minnesota in 1954 with her daughter, Jill, and settled in San Jose, where he met her future husband, Lloyd Allen.

She enjoyed spending summers at their cabin at Lake Shasta and belonged to the Sonora Lioness Club.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Allen, in 2004, and her first husband, Vernon Tangen, in 1952.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jill K. McClintock-Cole and Ronald Cole, of Sonora; grandchildren, David Parker and his wife, Terry, of Sonora, and Matthew McClintock and his wife, Katie, of Sonora; two step-grandchildren, Robert McClintock and Michelle Stewart, both of Alabama; and eight great-grandchildren, Savannah, Audrey, Emily, Molly and Shannon McClintock, all of Sonora, and Casey, Jacob and Ashley Parker, all of Sonora.

A memorial service will be held at noon on Thursday, Jan. 19, at Mother Lode Mobile Home Park clubhouse with a potluck to follow.
