Adelle Patricia Williams Spiess

Jan. 11, 1928 - Nov. 17, 2011

Former Sonora resident Adelle Patricia Williams Spiess died Nov. 17 at Mercy General Hospital in Sacramento. She was 83.

Born in Tapco, Ariz., to Nina Lee and Clyde Williams, she graduated from Arizona State University with her teaching credential in 1953. While there she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority, Mu Rho Alpha honorary music sorority, and the 53 Club.

She began teaching at Pomolita School in Ukiah before relocating to Antioch where she met and later married Edward Spiess.

The couple moved to Twain Harte in 1965 and to Sonora in the late 1960s. While here she taught at Curtis Creek Elementary School, primarily the fourth grade, and her husband taught at Sonora High School.

She sang in her church choir and appeared in Handel's Messiah on numerous occasions.

She was a charter member of PEO International, and president of the Sonora Community Hospital Auxiliary.

In 2008, the couple moved to Sacramento to be closer to their son and his family.

Mrs. Spiess is survived by her husband, Edward Spiess, of Sacramento; son and daughter-in-law, Erik and Jarma Spiess, of Sacramento; grandson, Bennett Spiess, of Sacramento; and sister, Barbara Glavich, of Ukiah.

A celebration of life is scheduled for 11 a.m. Jan. 14 at the Sonora United Methodist Church.

James Keith Jones

July 14, 1942 - Dec. 15, 2011

Douglas Flat resident James Keith Jones died Dec. 15 at his daughter's home in Salt Springs Valley. He was 69.

Born in Falls City, Neb. to Jean and Keith Jones, he worked as a carpenter for 40 years.

He lived in Douglas Flat for 40 years.

Mr. Jones is survived by his children, Skeeter and Jim Jones, of Murphys, Roger Jones, of Sacramento, Patrick Jones, of Turlock, and Kathy Stephens, of Salt Springs Valley; stepchildren, Vicky DeValle, of Murphys, Adam Chapman, of Oregon, and Casey Chapman, of Antioch; sisters, Nancy Camgross, of Lapine, Sally Fletcher, of Citrus Heights, Julie Quinn, of Lafayette, and Susan Deemer, of Daly City; and 11 grandchildren.

A graveside service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Jan. 14 at the Buena Vista Cemetery in Murphys.

Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Edgar A. Jalbert

Oct. 16, 1926 - Dec. 22, 2011

Former Arnold resident Edgar A. Jalbert died Dec. 22 at the Sutter-Auburn Faith Hospital in Auburn. He was 85.

Born in La Fleche, Sas-katchewan, he served in the U.S. Navy and Air Force during the Korean War.

He worked as a real estate salesman for Boise-Cascade in Arnold during the 1970s before going on to own and operate Gold Crest Jewelers in Arnold.

He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Arnold.

Mr. Jalbert is survived by his children, Jimmy Lee Jalbert, of Oak Harbor, Wash., Patrick Jalbert, of El Sobrante, Sherry Bowers, of Penn Valley, Michelle Jerome and Theresa Anderson, both of Bossier City, La., and Wendelyn Smith, of Suisun City; sister, Lorraine Burback, of Casper, Wyo.; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellene "Elly" Jalbert.

A private family service is scheduled for a later date.

He will be buried next to his wife at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon.

Henry J. Windle

Oct. 4, 1938 - Dec. 16, 2011

Valley Springs resident Henry J. Windle died Dec. 16 at Mark Twain St. Joseph's Hospital in San Andreas. He was 73.

Born in Cardin, Okla., to Georgia and William Windle, he worked for Libby-Owens-Ford glass plant in Lathrop for many years before becoming the manager of the Gold Strike Village Mobile Home Park in San Andreas.

He and his wife, Phyllis, later moved to Oregon, where they lived for the past nine years.

In September 2011, he and his wife moved to Valley Springs to be near their son and his family. He enjoyed fishing, an activity he was able to do shortly before he died.

Mr. Windle is survived by his wife of 54 years, Phyllis Windle, of Valley Springs; children and their spouses, Wesley and Glenda Windle, of Coquille, Ore., and Jeff and Vickie Windle, of Valley Springs; daughter-in-law, Elaine Mendoza Windle, of Acampo; siblings, Bill Windle, of Berry Creek, Tommy and Stanley Windle, both of Stockton, David Windle, of Oregon, Janice Alex, of Coquille, Ore., Mary Quillman, of Okla., Donna Leonhardt, of Modesto, and Judy Spicer, of Waterford; grandchildren, Jonathan Brabbin, of Jackson, Nickollette Brabbin, of San Andreas, Ryan Brabbin, of Sacramento, Seth Green, of Valley Springs, and Ruby Brazor, of Japan; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Douglas Windle.

A memorial service has already been held.

The San Andreas Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

The Lima Campagna Alameda Mission Chapel in San Jose is handling arrangements.
