Barbara F. Campbell died Dec. 24 at Avalon Care Center in Sonora of kidney failure. She was 86.

She lived at Tuolumne General Medical Facility's long-term care for eight years before moving to Avalon in November.

Mrs. Campbell was born in Warren County, Ohio, to Michael and Bertha Vargo. She left home at the age of 18 and moved to Oakland, where she met and married Arthur Campbell. They had eight children who, along with their families, remained close to her.

She and her husband moved to Arnold in 1974 where she lived until 1999 when she moved to Columbia.

A faithful Catholic with a large family, she had little time for a social life, her family said. Her life revolved around her husband, children and grandchildren. Her hobbies included baking, gardening and reading. Her family said she was well known for her cooking and baking skills.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Marie and Ken Fischer, of Copperopolis, Margaret "Peggy" and Stephen Kistner, of Columbia, Nancy and Richard Munster, of Auburn, Stephanie and Jim Schueffle, of Washougal, Wash., Michael and Janet Campbell, of Sonora, Barbara Schneider and friend, Chuck, of Sonora, Barbara's twin brother and wife, Arthur and Pamela Campbell, of Vacaville, and youngest son, Phillip Campbell, of Sonora; grandchildren, Michelle Camacho, of Sonora, Robert Dunn, of Vallecito, John Cariglio-Kistner, of Omaha, Neb., Stephen M. Kistner, of Columbia, Laurie Munster-Eaton, of Sacramento, Jason Munster, of Dillingham, Alaska, Carrie Christian-Langley, of Eugene, Ore., Serena Christian, of Eugene, Ore., Cody Schueffle, of Washgoula, Wash., Sarah Campbell Schultz, of Long Beach, Wash., Rachel Campbell-Tibbetts, of Vacaville, Allison Campbell-Pietrek, of Sacramento, Heather Campbell, of Sonora, Jessica Ann Campbell, of Sonora, and Jennifer Campbell, of Sacramento; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Edward Vargo, of Mesa, Ariz., and Michael Vargo, of Corpus Christi, Texas; and many cousins.

Mrs. Campbell was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Campbell, in 1988.

Burial will be private at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Murphys with a private memorial in Columbia after the service.

L.W. 'Dub' Glass

Jan. 20, 1927 - Dec. 10, 2011

L.W. "Dub" Glass, a longtime resident of Angels Camp, died Dec. 10 at the Health Care at Foster Creek facility in Portland, Ore. He was 84.

He was born in Stratford, Okla., to Wallace Pierson Glass and Floie Mae Glass.

He served in the U.S. Navy and Naval Seabees during World War II. After his military service, he worked at several positions, including forest ranger and bank teller until he began a 25-year-plus career with PG&E, during which time he lived in Angels Camp.

Later, he worked with his brother, Monroe Glass, in pipeline construction before retiring to Oregon.

He lived in Myrtle Point, Ore., for many years. He was a member of the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in North Bend, Ore., which he attended with his wife of many years, Shirley, and his later wife, Mary, both of whom preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret "Midge" Glass, of Corvalis, Ore.; his daughter and son-in-law, Jaynee and John Hubbell, of Altaville; grandson, Matthew Hubbell, of Murphys; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wallace and Alice Glass, of Round Rock, Texas, and Monroe and Connie Glass, of Mesa, Ariz.; three sisters, Mary Lou Warren, of Shallowater, Texas, Geneva Leidi, of Lubbock Texas, Eva Nell and Ronal O'Connor, of Littlefield, Texas, nine nieces, four nephews and their extended families.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and by two brothers, Jimmy Don and Billy Joe.

Dolly Karon

March 31, 1940 - Dec. 26, 2011

Dolly Karon died Dec. 26 at her Sonora home. She was 71.

She was born in Nampa, Idaho, to Donna Barker, and had lived in Sonora for 24 years. She was a chaplain for 10 years, working mostly as an active volunteer with the American Cancer Society.

Her main interest was her family, and she also enjoyed reading, music, crocheting, church activities and helping breast cancer survivors.

She is survived by her mother, Donna Barker, of Sonora; a son, Robb Cameron Boone, of Sonora; grandchildren, Jasin Boone, of Sonora, and Cody Boone and Baylee Jo Boone, both of Nevada.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Harvest Fellowship Church, 14240 Tuolumne Road, Sonora. Donations in her memory can be made to Hospice of the Sierra, 20100 Cedar Road N., Sonora, CA, 95370.

Eugene Waits

Sept. 17, 1954 - Dec. 19, 2011

Danny Eugene Waits, of Sonora, died Dec. 19 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. He was 57.

Mr. Waits was born in Oakland to Arliss and Lois Waits, the fifth of six children.

Among his talents were songwriting, playing the harmonica and guitar, and gardening. He held many jobs over the years, mostly in construction, and at one point worked on a job in Australia.

His interests included his pets, gardening and the outdoors.

He is survived by four sisters, Denise Gordon, of Sonora, Debra Paradiso, of Stockton, Diane Geer, of San Leandro, and Donna McGregor, of Lebanon, Tenn.; his life partner of 22 years, Sharon Higuera, of Sonora; seven nephews; two nieces; and 11 great-nephews and great-nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandfather, Bill Waits; and his grandmother, Ursuella Waits, who raised him and his siblings.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. on Jan. 21 at Victory Outreach Church in Tracy. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home handled initial arrangements.
