Benvenuto 'Ben' Lombardo

Soulsbyville resident Benvenuto "Ben" Lorenzo Alberto Lombardo died Wednesday at Avalon Care Center in Sonora. He was 76.

Born in Milan, Italy, to Paolo and Angela Lombardo, he was the seventh of nine children. He moved to the United States in 1967 and married Cecilia De Stefano in 1969.

He was a leather craftsman who designed for Levi Strauss, the French Company and Louis Vuitton, as well as his own store and factory.

He became a U.S. citizen in 1986, and lived in Soulsbyville for 13 years before moving to Avalon Care Center, where he lived for almost seven years.

He spoke Italian, French, English and Spanish.

He enjoyed playing soccer and tennis, bike riding, skiing, woodworking, and playing the harmonica.

Mr. Lombardo is survived by his wife of almost 43 years, Cecilia "Cee Cee" Lombardo, of Soulsbyville; daughter and son-in-law, Angela Maria and Jake Matulich, of San Diego; stepchildren and their spouses, Bruce and Robin Meyer, of Soulsbyville, Cheryl and Michael Nelson, of Columbia, and Paul and Cecil Meyer, of Phoenix, Ariz.; grandchildren, William, Wesley, and Walker Meyer, all of Soulsbyville, and Benvenuto Michele Matulich, of San Diego; and siblings, Piera Lombardo, and Margarita Romano, both of Rome, Italy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his five brothers and one sister.

A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Nov. 28 at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home. It will be followed by a celebration of life potluck at the Skyline Place's Villa Dining Room in Sonora.

Ramona B. James

Jamestown resident Ramona "Mona" B. James died Saturday at her home. She was 73.

Born in Modesto to Melvin and Virginia Trimble, she worked as a slot machine representative at Black Oak Casino for eight years.

She lived in Jamestown for 40 years.

She enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, reading and Mad Maxine collectibles. She especially enjoyed playing casino slot machines.

Mrs. James is survived by her husband of 29 years, Don James, of Jamestown; children, Terry O'Donnell, of Wyoming, Edward Harvey, of North Fork, and Tracy Beaudoin, of Sonora; stepchildren, Don James, of Sparks, Nev., and Deanne James, of Stockton; siblings, Shirley Chrysler-White, of Arizona, and Tom Trimble, of New Mexico; grandchildren, Meleah Penrose, of Wyoming; Jacinda Hale, of Fresno, Jacoby Grisso, of Colorado, Jara Beaudoin, of Sonora, Marissa Hawkins, of Upland, and Brittany and Jennifer James, both of Sparks, Nev.; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Riddle.

A celebration of life is scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday at the Moose Lodge, 20921 Longeway Road, Sonora.
