Ralph Batchelor

April 11, 1915 - Nov. 4, 2011

Sonora resident Ralph Richard Batchelor died Nov. 4 at Tuolumne General Hospital's long-term care unit. He was 96.

Born in Los Angeles to Edward and Myrtle Batchelor, he grew up there and joined the U.S. Navy in 1933, where he served for four years.

He worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Los Angeles for 14 years, before going on to sell car wash and coin-op laundry equipment in California.

He and his family moved to Sonora in 1973.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, nature, crossword puzzles, baseball games, reading, and drinking root beer floats.

Mr. Batchelor is survived by his wife of 41 years, Millie Batchelor, of Sonora; children, Marianne Gardiner and Denise Payne, both of Lancaster, Diane Smith and companion Mark Lonien, and Steve and wife June Smith, all of Sonora, and Edward Batchelor, of Escondido; 18 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Gus, Fred, Don and Frances Batchelor; daughter, Sharron O'Kane; and grandchildren, Louise Jaskolka, Joey Batchelor, and Michael Mahenski.

No service is scheduled.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.

Leslie Ann Griggs

Oct. 19, 1942 - Nov. 7, 2011

Tuolumne resident Leslie Ann Griggs died Monday at her home. She was 69.

Born in Sacramento to Sterling and Kay Norgard, she was a wife and mother.

She moved to Sonora in 1984 and volunteered at the Mountain Women's Resource Center.

She enjoyed arts and crafts.

Mrs. Griggs is survived by her husband of 47 years, Melvin Griggs, of Tuolumne; children, Steven Griggs, of Fairfield, and Shelley Actis, of Columbia, South America; and grandchildren, Jessica McDaniel, of Oklahoma, Jeremy Griggs, of Tuolumne, and Lindsay, Kennedy, Chloe, and Sophie Actis, of Columbia, South America; and one great-grandson.

A private family service in Ukiah is scheduled for a later date.

Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Johnny E. Johnson

April 23, 1959 - Nov. 8, 2011

Valley Springs resident Johnny E. Johnson died Tuesday at Mark Twain St. Joseph's Hospital in San Andreas.

He was 52.

Born in Stockton to Elwin and Shirley Johnson, he was a project engineer for Sara Lee for about 10 years.

He lived in Valley Springs for 38 years.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and going four wheeling with his wife.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 33 years, Karen Johnson, of Valley Springs; children, Tammy Frazier, of Lodi, and Carrie and husband Mike Adams, of Valley Springs; brother, Jim Johnson, of Washington; grandchildren, Corinna Frazier, of Lodi, and Michael, Tyler, Zachary, and Avery Adams, all of Valley Springs; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. at the San Andreas Memorial Chapel.

He will be buried at the Mokelumne Hill Catholic Cemetery.

STEWART - Floyd Stewart, 71, of Sonora, died Thursday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
