Margaret Ellen Foster

Sonora resident Margaret Ellen Foster died Oct. 21 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 60.

Born in Deshler, Neb., to John and Mary Hampton, she was one of 14 children.

She and her family moved to California in 1957 and she graduated from Oakdale High School in 1969.

She married Steven Foster in 1969, and the couple lived in Modesto from 1973 to 86, before moving to Sonora.

She was a member of the Sierra Bible Church.

She volunteered to supervise parental visitations so that parents could see their children. She and her grandson, Matthew, also volunteered at the ReHorse Rescue Ranch for more than two years.

Mrs. Foster is survived by her husband of 42 years, Steven Foster Sr., of Sonora; son and daughter-in-law, Steven Jr. and April Foster, of Sonora; and grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew, and Curtis Foster, all of Sonora; and siblings, Roy Hampton, of Gillette, Wyo., Donna Presnell and Joan Rocha, both of Meridian, Idaho, Mary Newman, of Deshler, Les Hampton, of St. George, Utah, Carlene Anderson, of St. Alberts, Alberta, Canada, Susan Hampton, of Capitola, and Barbara Heck, of Fairfax, Va.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Shirley Szephegyi, Bonnie Vecchione, Johnlyn Keeney, Ivene Trew, and Jack Hampton.

A service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at the Sierra Bible Church, 15171 Tuolumne Road, Sonora.

Linda Gardella Cassinetto

Aug. 9, 1946 - Oct. 25, 2011

Former Sonora resident Linda Gardella Cassinetto died Tuesday at Memorial Hospital in Modesto. She was 65.

Born in Sonora, to Jack and Gloria Gardella, she grew up on Sanguinetti Road in Sonora and graduated from Sonora High School in 1964.

She went on to attend college in the Bay Area before going to work in the Pleasant Hill Police Department for several years.

She moved back to Sonora in 1972, where she worked as a secretary for the Tuolumne County Planning Department. She and her brother David later owned and operated Sonora Video.

While in Sonora, she raised her family and was involved in her children's activities. She was a leader for Girl Scout Troop 227 and spent many years taking trips across the state with them, and attended her children's sporting events.

In October 2000, she married Ben Cassinetto and the couple moved to Knights Ferry, where she lived for the past 10 years.

While in Knights Ferry, she hosted many parties for the community and helped institute annual celebrations like Benny's Ball Feed and the Zero Birthday Party.

She and her husband purchased The River's Edge Restaurant in March 2011.

Mrs. Cassinetto is survived by her husband of 11 years, Ben J. Cassinetto, of Knights Ferry; children, Monica and husband Lou Frere, of Marysville, Stephen Dietrich III, of Sonora, and Beth Dietrich, of Knights Ferry; stepchildren, Ed and wife Denise Cassinetto, of Knights Ferry, and Sheryl Cassinetto and partner John, and Tom Cassinetto and partner Karen, all of Oakdale; grandchildren, Zack DeGrood, of Pensacola, Fla., and Eden and Benjamin Cassinetto, both of Knights Ferry; and brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Trisha Gardella, of Montezuma.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, David Gardella.

A service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Sonora, to be followed by a burial at the Knights Ferry Cemetery and a celebration of life at the Knights Ferry Community Club.
