Nancy Roberta Rosasco

Jan. 8, 1936 - Sept. 30, 2011

Columbia resident Nancy Roberta Rosasco died Sept. 30 at her home. She was 75.

Born in Santa Barbara to Harold and Melba Huebsch, she graduated from the University of California, Davis, in 1957 with her bachelor's degree in home economics. She later earned her master's degree in public administration from the University of Southern California in 1985.

In 1957, she moved to Sonora, where she married cattle rancher Richard Rosasco.

She served as the Tuolumne County Farm Bureau secretary from 1963 to 1986 and was one of the founding members of Tuolumne County Alliance for Resources and Environment (TuCARE), serving as its executive director from 1990 to 1997. She also kept the books for the family's cattle ranch in Golconda, Nev.

Mrs. Rosasco represented Tuolumne and Calaveras counties on the Yosemite Community College District Board from 1975 to 1997, served on the California Community College Board of Directors from 1986 to 1996, was a life member of the Association of Community College Trustees, serving as its national president in 1991, served on numerous accreditation teams for the California Community College system, and a member of the Great Basin College Foundation Board in Nevada.

She was a board member of the Sonora Visiting Nurse Association, on the advisory board to Sonora Community Hospital prior to it becoming the Sonora Regional Medical Center, and the floor person for the Tuolumne County Grand Jury in 1990.

She was also a life member of Omega Nu and a founding member of the Tuolumne County branch of the American Association of University Women.

She received the Tuolumne County Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Citizen Award in 1987 and was inducted into the Columbia College Hall of Fame in 2001.

She had also traveled to Washington, D.C., more than 25 times to talk to members of Congress about Columbia College, the college district in general and TuCARE.

She enjoyed hiking, skiing, trips to the mountains, photography, quilting and traveling.

Mrs. Rosasco is survived by her husband of 54 years, Richard Rosasco, of Golconda, Nev.; children, Sarah Rosasco and husband Bob Brewer, of Golconda, Nev., and Meg Rosasco, of Columbia; two nephews; one niece; three great-nieces and nephews; and numerous good friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister and aunt.

A service is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Calvary Chapel, 19889 Soulsbyville Road, Soulsbyville, to be followed by a reception in the fellowship hall.

Edwin 'Eddy' Howey

March 25, 1953 - Sept. 22, 2011

Cedar Ridge resident Edwin "Eddy" Howey died Sept. 22 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. He was 58.

Born in Glendale to Mary-Louise Hyde and Walter Crawford Howey, he was a general contractor and owned his own construction company for many years.

He moved to Twain Harte in the late 1970s.

He enjoyed working hard, skiing, golfing, playing poker, the San Francisco Giants and 49ers, the Grateful Dead and vacationing in Kaua'i.

Mr. Howey is survived by partner, Mary Schipper, of Cedar Ridge; daughters, Lauren Howey, of Twain Harte, and Lisa Schipper-Howey, of Merced; and brother, Larry Howey, of Fresno.

He was preceded in death by his parents Mary-Louise Hyde and Walter Crawford Howey; and three sisters.

A celebration of life is scheduled for noon Oct. 23 at the Twain Harte Golf Course.

Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
