Theresa Frank

Sept. 18, 1949 - Sept. 15, 2011

Cheryl Theresa Frank, of Sonora, died Sept. 15 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 61.

Born in Oakland to Sydney and Angela Jones, she was one of seven children.

She worked as a registered nurse in Sonora for about 30 years, having worked at the Sierra Hospital, Sonora Community Hospital and Avalon Care Center.

Mrs. Frank is survived by her husband of 20 years, Barry Frank, of Sonora; mother, Angela Jones, of Roseville; children, Michael and wife Lisa Roberson, of Calgary, Canada, Eric Roberson and Matthew Frank, both of Sonora, and Michelle Frank, of Norwalk, Conn.; grandson, Michael David Usiak, of Norwalk, Conn.; siblings and their spouses, Barbara and Bill Peters and Beth Combs, all of Newcastle, Cathy and Steve Gallegos, of Folsom, Laurie and Don Dillier, of Granite Bay, and Sharon, Mike and Pam Jones, all of Roseville; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Tim Jones and Howard Combs.

A service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Terzich and Wilson Funeral Chapel.

Lee Elder

Feb. 8, 1923 - Sept. 11, 2011

Sonora resident Donald Lee Elder died Sept. 11 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. He was 89.

Born in Omaha, Neb., to Anne Moore and Lewis Edward Elder, he served in the U.S. Navy as a naval aviator and aircraft carrier landing signal officer in the Pacific during World War II.

He worked as an aeronautical engineer for Boeing, McDonnell Douglas and Ford Aerospace for 35 years. He later began teaching aerodynamics at San Jose State University, as well as in Japan.

He was also a private pilot and flight instructor.

After his retirement, he began consulting on designs to improve race cars.

He was a Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts, and volunteered for the Tuolumne County Mental Health Advisory Board and SCORE.

He enjoyed attending air shows and traveling to Bonneville Salt Flats to watch race cars he helped design break new records, and making rocketry and science projects with the students at Sonora Elementary School.

He was also awarded the Tuolumne County's Senior Volunteer Award.

He and his wife, Jean, have been members of the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Sugar Pine for many years.

Mr. Elder is survived by his wife of 37 years, Jean S. Elder, of Sonora; children, Lee Elder, of Santa Clara, Glen Elder and partner Tracy Martin, of Albany, Calif., Eve Elder, of Mariposa, and Christine Elder and husband Ric Garcia, of Sonora; stepchildren, Sarah Stokes, of Santa Barbara, John Stokes, of Hilmar, and Carolyn and husband Neil Robb, of Manhattan Beach; grandchildren, Elijah Elder-Rosen, of Arnold, Flora and husband Aaron Savage, of Mariposa, Robert and Steven Palmer, both of Sonora, and Garret and Wyatt Robb, both of Manhattan Beach.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 25 years, Betty Jane Elder; and brother, James Elder.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Oct. 1 at the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 24176 Pine Lake Drive, Sugar Pine.

Roy Daniels

July 28, 1917 - Sept. 16, 2011

Angels Camp resident Roy Daniels died Sept. 16 at the Mark Twain Convalescent Hospital in San Andreas. He was 94.

Born in Broken Bow, Okla., to Bert and Esther Daniels, he was raised on a farm and went on to work for the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression.

He joined the U.S. Army during World War II and was wounded on the Italian front. He later joined the U.S. Air Force around the time it was formed, serving in several posts around the world.

He moved to Angels Camp in 1961, where his aunt and uncle founded the Angels Camp Museum. He then began working for PG&E.

After his retirement from PG&E, he began gardening for several ranches and homeowners in the area.

He enjoyed gardening, especially organic produce.

Mr. Daniels is survived by his grandsons, Kenneth Leitch, of Canyon, Texas, Keith Leitch, of Santa Rosa, and Mark Leitch, of the United Kingdom; and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanell Daniels; and daughter, Rowena Leitch.

A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Angels Memorial Chapel.

Interment will be at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella.
