Betty A. Chamberlin, 82, of Sonora died Saturday at a San Ramon hospital.

Mrs. Chamberlin was born in Brookings, S.D., and lived in Sonora for the past 28 years.

She had worked as a secretary until she married Charles Chamberlin, and then was a homemaker for 62 years.

She and her husband lived various places in the United States during his career in construction and also in other countries, including Pakistan and Canada.

Mr. Chamberlin often moved ahead of Mrs. Chamberlin, leaving her to orchestrate the moves of herself and their two children to their new homes. She moved to Sonora in the 1970s, after her husband moved here to help build Melones Dam.

A member of Jamestown United Methodist Church, she served as its secretary for a few years. She also supported Guide Dogs for the Blind.

She helped with various Shriners activities when her husband was a member.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996.

Mrs. Chamberlin is survived by a son and a daughter-in-law, Greg and Carol Chamberlin of Edmund, Okla.; a daughter and a son-in-law, Carol and John Ridings of Livermore; a brother and a sister-in-law, Virgil and Patsy Green of Carmichael; a grandson, Charlie Ridings of Livermore; a granddaughter, Sarah Ridings of Livermore; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Heuton Memorial Chapel. Burial will be at Union Cemetery, Flandreau, S.D.

Wesley Jean Carll, 74, of Avery died Saturday at his home.

Mr. Carll was born in Paso Robles and had lived in Avery for the past 47 years.

He served in the Army from 1945 to 1948, during World War II. He later was a truck driver with Calaveras Asbestos in Copperopolis for many years, before he retired.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Verlyn B. Carll, and a brother, Robert Carll.

Mr. Carll is survived by a daughter, Wendelin Pierce of West Point; three sons, Richard Carll of Angels Camp, Dudley Carll of West Point and Stephen Carll of Mokelumne Hill; three brothers, Forest Carll of Los Angeles, Melvin Carll of Montclair and Delbert Carll of Salinas; two sisters, Viola Whitmire of Salinas and Eleanor Woods of Stockton; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

No service will be held at his request. Inurnment will be private. Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
