Ethel May Norris

Ethel May Norris, 74, of Groveland died Tuesday at her home.

Mrs. Norris was born in Palmdale and had lived in Groveland for the past 13 years.

She was a hairdresser for 30 years and owned a beauty salon in Saratoga.

She was a member of the Pine Mountain Lake 18 Hole Ladies Golf Club, Pine Mountain Lake Garden Club and Pine Mountain Lake Aviation Association. She was also an avid hiker and a docent at the Groveland Yosemite Gateway Museum.

Her family said she adopted both her children and raised them with utmost compassion and unconditional love. Her husband said she worked to put him through college and was a loving wife.

Mrs. Norris is survived by her husband of 55 years, Gordon Norris of Groveland; two sons, Roy and Lynn Norris of Napa Valley and Gary and Jill Norris of Seattle; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Grant, Caitlin, Samantha and Gabrielle Norris; a sister, Laura Mae Lenhart of Yucaipa, San Bernardino County; and a nephew, Steven McIntosh.

A memorial will be held at a later date. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

James Edward

'Jim' McKenzie

James Edward "Jim" McKenzie, 72, of Sonora died Wednesday at a Sonora hospital.

Mr. McKenzie was born in Chickasha, Okla., and grew up in Albany, Alameda County. He had lived in the Bay Area for 54 years, many of those years in Martinez, and in Sonora for the past seven years.

He was a truck driver for Flint Ink, which delivered ink to newspapers, for 32 years.

A longtime member of the Elks Lodge in Concord, he transferred his membership to Sonora Elks Lodge when he moved to Sonora. He was co-chairman of Sonora Elks Lodge Americanism Committee, which sponsors essays for school children. He also participated in fund raisers for Sonora Elks Lodge benefits. He was also a member of the Twain Harte Golf Club and a member and past president of Senior Merry Makers Bowling League and Lockets and Spurs square dance group in Richmond.

His family said he was an outstanding and outgoing man.

Mr. McKenzie is survived by his wife of 42 years, Charlotte McKenzie of Sonora; a son and a daughter-in-law, Dennis and Barbara McKenzie of Pleasant Hill; two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda McKenzie and Shelly Hance and Hart Drobish, all of Columbia; three grandchildren, Brandon McKenzie, Christopher McKenzie and Allison Drobish; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, and a funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, both at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home. Burial will be private in the Elks section of Mountain Shadow Cemetery in Sonora.

Rosa Lee Huot

Rosa Lee Huot, 71, a former resident of Jamestown, died Nov. 16 at her home in Ingleside, Texas.

Mrs. Huot was born in Garber, Okla., and had lived in Jamestown from 1988 to 1999.

She had been an executive secretary for General Dynamics in San Diego and later a secretary for Twin Lakes Baptist Church in Aptos.

Her family said she loved to play the piano and loved music. She also grew flowers and especially liked growing African violets.

Mrs. Huot is survived by her husband, Wil Huot of Ingleside; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Glenda and Berry Sorenson of Ingleside, Texas, Yvonne and Jon Macon of Santa Cruz and Cathy Huot of San Diego; three sons, Don Gerrard of Salinas, Danny Huot of San Diego and Gary and Janna Huot of Arlington, Wash.; a brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Gloria Shaffer of St. Paul, Minn.; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Daisie (Worth) and Kenneth C. Shaffer, a daughter, Marjorie Lynn Boyce, and a grandson, Jason D. Sorenson.

A memorial will be held in the spring of 2003 in Garber, Okla.
