Rosebud Elva Conger

Longtime Camp Connell and Copperopolis resident Rosebud Elva Conger died Sept. 2 at a San Andreas care home. She was 93.

She was born in Cotati, and in 1947, she and her family moved to Camp Connell. There, her parents owned a store and she was the U.S. postmaster for 25 years and ran the Hi 4 Motel. She later lived in Avery and lived in Copperopolis for the last 10 years.

She is survived by her daughters, Sheryl Richardson, of Copperopolis; and Joyce Myatt, of Gilroy; brother and sister-in-law, Grover and Beverly Anderson, of Murphys; sister-in-law, Flo Anderson, of Hathaway Pines; granddaughter, Shana Shawkey and her husband, Nick, and their son, Jakob Shawkey, all of Altaville; granddaughter, Sandra Osborn, of Happy Camp, and her sons, Thomas Salvo, Shane Haynes and James Haynes, all of Happy Camp; granddaughter, Cherise Elliot, of Utah, Nellie Myatt, of Utah, Bonnie Schieb, of Gilroy, and Kyrod Myatt, of Gilroy; 15 great-great-grandchildren; and many great-nieces and -nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tex Conger; son, Randy Conger; brothers, Leonard "Andy" Anderson and Randal Anderson.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Angels Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Murphys' Buena Vista Cemetery.

Robert Ernst

Copperopolis resident John Robert Ernst died Sept. 2 at a San Andreas hospital. He was 68.

Mr. Ernst was born in California and lived in the San Francisco Bay Area since childhood. He lived in Calaveras County for the last five years. He worked as a maintenance engineer at Stanford Hospital for 28 years. Mr. Ernst was an avid camper and enjoyed staying with his sons at Blue Lake Springs.

He is survived by his wife, Lynne Ernst, of Copperopolis; son, Warren Ernst; daughters, Ledia McVeigh and Lori Hargen; stepson, Dean Payne; stepdaughter, Debra Banks; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Mary Elizabeth 'Betty' Jensen

Jamestown resident Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Jensen died Aug. 29 at a San Francisco hospital. She was 83.

Mrs. Jensen was born in St. Paul, Minn. She and her husband, Charles Jensen, lived in Redwood City for many years, where he was a member of the Redwood City Fire Department. During those years, she was very active with the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and youth sports.

She enjoyed playing golf for many years with the Twain Harte Ladies golf group. She was an active member of the Twain Harte Volunteer Firefighters Ladies Auxiliary.

While living at Mill Villa Estates, she participated in water aerobics. She also liked to play cards with various groups. Mrs. Jensen loved getting together with friends for lunch and celebrating their birthdays. She recently traveled to St. Paul to attend the class of 1943 high school reunion.

Mrs. Jensen is survived by her children, Michael Jensen, and his wife, Lorna, of San Carlos; and Susan Marie Jensen, of Jamestown; grandchildren, Brian Jensen and his wife, Melissa, of San Jose, and Kathryn Jensen, of San Carlos; great-grandchildren, Raquel Jensen, of San Carlos, and Jayden Jensen, of San Jose; niece, Linda Engler, of Michigan, and her son, Christopher.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Dale Jensen; sister, Geraldine Engler; and parents, Harvey and Kate Taylor.

A celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, at Mill Villa Estates Clubhouse, in Jamestown.

Ella Louise

Longtime Glencoe resident Ella Louise Mallory died Sept. 3 at a Jackson hospital. She was 78.

A native of Idaho, Mrs. Mallory grew up there and moved to Richmond in 1942. She moved to Concord in 1960, then to Pinole in 1973, and settled in Glencoe in 1985.

She is survived by her grandson, John Rossi, of Glencoe.

Mrs. Mallory was preceded in death by her daughter, Marela Rossi; and sister, Margaret Finck.

Jerry Melvin Thomason

Longtime Sonora resident Jerry Melvin Thomason died Aug. 30 at his home after a struggle with leukemia. He was 70.

Mr. Thomason was born in Eufaula, Okla. He came to California in 1941 and lived in the San Jose area most of his early life. He was a machinist for 50 years. He married Juanita Reeves Flud in 1974 and, in 1975, they opened their own machine shop in Santa Clara. In 1980, they moved the operation to Sonora and built their own building in 1989. His favorite pastime was being at his shop on his computer or reading. He enjoyed going to Pioneer Inn and Boomtown in Reno, Nev., or Carson Valley Inn in Gardnerville, Nev., where he had many friends.

Mr. Thomason is survived by his wife of 34 years, Juanita; son, Ted Thomason, of Florida; daughter, Lucinda Martin, of San Jose; daughter, Cindi Owens, of Sonora; son, Steve Flud, of Sonora; son, Alan Flud, and his wife, Roz, of Jamestown; grandchildren, Heather and Michelle Thomason, KC Owens, and Desiree, Alex and Shelby Flud; stepfather of 59 years, Jim Cope; brother, Bill Cope, and his wife, Kimberly, all of San Jose; aunt, Agnes Gray, of Oklahoma; daughter-in-law, Ann Weaver, of Sonora; sister-in-law, Sonja Reeves, of Nevada; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Judy Cope, in October 2007; father, William Alfred Thomason, in 1987; mother-in-law, Kathryn Reeves, in 1975; brother-in-law, Odell Reeves, in 1999; and son-in-law, Kenneth Owens, in 2004.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Visiting Nurse Association Hospice, P.O. Box 4805, Sonora, CA 95370, or the Joshua Ditler Foundation of Hope, c/o El Dorado Bank, 22990 Joaquin Gulley Road, Twain Harte, CA 95383.

At his request, there will not be a formal service, however, the family will hold a celebration of his life from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7 at the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Posse Clubhouse. Meat and drinks will be provided and it is asked to bring a side dish or dessert. The family asks that attendants dress casual and bring lots of happy memories to share.
