Wade H. Oswald

Longtime Arnold resident Wade Harry Oswald died Sept. 18 at a Lodi hospital after a long illness. He was 73.

He was born in King City, Monterey County, and was the son of a pioneer Bitterwater, San Benito County, family. He lived in Bitterwater until he married Margie Johnson in 1957.

The couple moved to Arnold from Castro Valley in 1969 where he worked as the caretaker and water master for the Pinebrook Homeowners Association in Arnold. He also worked for Kustom Molding in Arnold for 10 years.

He was active in the community, serving 22 years as a volunteer firefighter for the Ebbetts Pass Fire District. He was a founding member of the Ebbetts Pass Search and Rescue Team, Angels-Murphys-Arnold Boosters Club Ponytail Softball League and Women's Softball League in Arnold.

He was recently awarded a lifetime achievement award by the Ebbetts Pass Search and Rescue Team and Calaveras County Sheriff's Department.

He was also an avid fisherman and hunter and was an endowment member of the National Rifle Association. His family added he loved to spend time with his family and travel.

Mr. Oswald is survived by his wife of 47 years, Margie; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Kathleen Oswald of Arnold; a daughter and son-in-law, Lynda and Howard Stohlman of Arnold; grandchildren, Mathew and Brooke Oswald and Steven, William and Jessica Stohlman; a brother, William Oswald of Concord, Contra Costa County; and a sister, Roberta Oswald of Bitterwater.

A celebration of life is scheduled for 2 p.m. tomorrow at Independence Hall in White Pines.

H. Silvernail

Albert H. Silvernail of Sonora died Monday at a Sonora care home. He was 82.

He was born in Oakland and was the son of Albert and Rebecca (Wurts) Silvernail.

He attended the University of Oregon in Eugene before leaving for the World War II military service, where he became a first lieutenant in the 2nd Infantry Division, 9th Regiment, Cannon Company in the U.S. Army. He was wounded in action in Brest, France, and received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

He spent almost 43 years with Bemis Co. Inc., formerly known as Bemis Bros. Bag Co., and retired as a division manager of the San Francisco Sales Division. After leaving Bemis, he spent one year as manager of the Yosemite Bank in Groveland and also served a term as director and president of the Groveland Community Services District. He was also active in the Mountain Lutheran Church in Big Oak Flat.

He moved to Pine Mountain Lake in 1984 and to Sonora in 1998.

While living in Pine Mountain Lake, he enjoyed trout fishing, boating and golfing, his family said.

Mr. Silvernail is survived by his wife of 36 years, Lorraine "Lorry"; his sister, Janice of Sonora; stepdaughters, Pamela of Maine and Patricia of California; his sons, Carl of Washington and Robert of Texas; grandchildren, Tamara, Stephanie, Michael, Lynne, Robbie, Aaron, Amber, Brandon, Corrie, John Robert and Sara; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy, and his older brother, Harold.

Services will be private.
