Anthony Miller

Dec. 27, 1923 - Sept. 26, 2004

Longtime Twain Harte resident Donald Anthony Miller, also known as "Pour Old Nik," died Sunday at a Sonora hospital. He was 80.

He was born in Baton Rouge, La. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 and was also known as Tucker.

Mr. Miller loved San Diego and made it his home, his family said. There he built and tended his own bar, The Turtle Inn. He also worked in construction, bartending and as a fencing estimator.

He told tall tales, his family added, and he was a fruit tramp and berry picker.

He was a Mason and member of the Alisal Lodge in Pleasanton.

He had lived in Twain Harte since 1981.

Mr. Miller is survived by his daughter, Jorinda J. Young of Ogden, Utah; sons, Peter J. Miller of Livermore and Gary W. Cummings of Santa Rosa; grandchildren, Tracy Thomas and Cassandra Barber, both of Ogden, Jessica and Jennifer Miller and Dawn Tidmarsh, all of Livermore, Jake Cummings of San Pedro, Los Angeles County, and Ronald Cummings of Santa Rosa and four other grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; sisters, Magdalena Casso and Regina Gardner both of New Orleans; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph B. Miller Sr. and Irma (Ibert) Miller; his first wife, Jean (Heacock) Miller; his second wife, Norma Jean (Cummings) Miller; his sister, Joyce Miller; brothers, Joseph B. Miller Jr. and Daniel Miller; and sons, Robert J. Miller, Donald A. Miller Jr., James R. Miller and Joseph B. Miller III.

Burial is scheduled at Tulocay Cemetery in Napa.

At his request, no services are scheduled.

Friends are planning a wake to be held at a later date.

Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Janice Marie (Tate) Fraser

Oct. 24, 1959 - Sept. 26, 2004

Longtime Tuolumne County resident Janice Marie (Tate) Fraser died unexpectedly Sunday at her home. She was 44.

She was born in Salina, Kan., and had lived in Jamestown since 1977. She was a Tuolumne County resident since 1963. She attended local elementary schools and graduated from Sonora High School in 1977. She was a graphic artist for 10 years.

Her family said she was creative and artistic, enjoyed scrapbooking and crafts, and loved children.

She was quick with a smile and was lots of fun, her family added.

She is survived by her son, T.J. Fraser of Columbia; daughter, RikkiAnne Fraser of Jamestown; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Tifany Tate of Twain Harte; a sister and brother-in-law, Lori and Bob Taylor of Tuolumne; parents, John and Kathaleen Tate of Sonora; grandchildren, Jerika, Kamiren and a grandchild due in February; nieces, Robin Jordan, Amy Taylor, Christianna Simmons, Lois Fortez and April Scott; a nephew, Colton Ebbers; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. tomorrow at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home.

Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.


GEHRING A graveside service for Calvin C. "Cal" Gehring, 75, of Sonora is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Mountain Shadow Cemetery. He died Sept. 21 at a Bismarck, N.D., hospital. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling local arrangements.
