Claude Joseph Zerangue

April 3, 1923 - Sept. 8, 2004

Former longtime Soulsbyville resident Claude Joseph Zerangue died Wednesday at his San Leandro home. He was 81.

He was born in Leonville, La., and had lived in Soulsbyville from 1976 to 2000. He previously had lived in Richmond from 1956-76 and worked as a structural steel painter on the San Rafael Bridge.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus of Sonora. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was recently a member of the Richmond Center Dance Club and the Castro Valley Rebels of Castro Valley.

He had been a member of the Twain Harte Twirlers of Twain Harte and the Argonaut Squares of Sonora.

Mr. Zerangue is survived by his wife, Mabel Marie Boudreaux Zerangue; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Mary Zerangue of El Sobrante, Contra Costa County; a daughter and son-in-law, Juliana and Richard Broderson of Oakland; a grandson, Jeffrey Carl Broderson of Oakland; a brother, Frank Mitchell Zerangue of Oregon; and sisters, Louise LaGrange and Amanda Hollier of Louisiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Zerangue and Rosa Courville Zerangue; brothers, Abel, Dennis, Joseph, Luke and Steve Riley; and sisters, Ada Durio, Angelle Lanclois, Aline Lanclois and Armance Willingham.

A rosary service is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday at Heuton Memorial Chapel. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. There will be a reception at St. Patrick's Catholic Church hall after the Mass. Pallbearers will include Ron Zerangue and Richard and Donald Broderson.

Andrew Murphy

May 28, 1923 - Sept. 7, 2004

Longtime Altaville resident Michael Andrew Murphy died Tuesday at his friend's home in Stockton. He was 81.

He was born in New York and had lived in Altaville for 25 years. He was a building inspector for Calaveras County for many years. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Angels Camp.

Mr. Murphy is survived by his children, Brian Murphy of Great Falls, Mont., Delia Walker of Campbell, Santa Clara County, Rosemary Stotts of Monroeville, N.J., and Maggie Murphy of Atkinson, Ill.; a sister, Rosemary D'Arrigo of San Jose; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen; and sons, Timothy and Michael.

Visitation is scheduled from 1-5 p.m. today at Angels Memorial Chapel. A service is scheduled for 10 a.m. tomorrow at the chapel.

Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

HARRIS Vera Louise Harris, 74, of Sonora died this morning at a Sonora hospital. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
