Thomas 'Tom' Jerome Bales

Sept. 9, 1958 - June 12, 2004

Longtime Tuolumne County resident Thomas "Tom" Jerome Bales died unexpectedly Saturday at his Stent home. He was 45.

He was born in Merced and had lived in Sonora and Stent since 1971. He at-tended Curtis Creek Elementary School and Sonora High School. He worked as an auto mechanic and was a surveyor at Sonora Mining Company in Jamestown.

His family said he liked fishing, gardening and dogs, cats and birds.

Mr. Bales is survived by his mother, Ethel Bales of Sonora; a daughter, Janell Bales of Modesto; a son, Dustin Bales of Sonora; a sister, Kathie Flagg of Sonora; a brother, Jim Bales of Sonora; a niece, Kristen Youngman of Ja-mestown; a nephew, Phil Flagg of Sonora; and his companion, Karen Salisbury of Stent.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Bales.

At his request, no services will be held.

'Jane' Gray

March 12, 1939 - June 10, 2004

Lillian "Jane" Gray of Murphys died June 10 at her home. She was 65.

She was born in Yuba City and lived in Murphys for seven years. She previously lived in Clayton, Contra Costa County, for 18 years. She was a retired supervisor for Pacific Bell Telephone Company now SBC in Marysville, Fresno and Walnut Creek. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Murphys.

She is survived by her husband, Larry Milton Gray of Murphys; a son, Jeffrey Alan Gray of Walnut Creek; a daughter, Allison Jane La-Mothe of Concord; and grandchildren, Sydney Jane and Eric Thomas LaMothe, both of Concord.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bessie and Eric Nelson.

A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday, June 27, at the First Congregational Church of Murphys.

Arnold Hibbard

Dec. 24, 1926 - June 13, 2004

Former Copperopolis resident Glenn Arnold Hibbard died Sunday at a Stockton hospital. He was 77.

He was born and raised in Santa Maria, Santa Barbara County. He lived in Placerville for 12 years, later in Copperopolis for a couple of years and most recently in Farmington for four years. He was a retired telephone lineman for GTE telephone, now Verizon. He served as a Merchant Marine during World War II.

Mr. Hibbard is survived by his sons, Glenn Hibbard of Tracy, Richard Hibbard of Vacaville, Kenneth and Frank Medieros, both of Pixley, Tulare County, James Zachary of Ventura and Randall Medieros of Mesa, Ariz.; daughters, Anna Haskins of Tracy, Susan Hibbard of Farmington, Linda Owens of Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo County, and Terry Brammer of North Carolina; 21 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and his companion, Shirley Dagle of Copperopolis.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Liligene; a daughter, Pam; and a grandson, Glenn.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Lake Tulloch Bible Church in Copperopolis.
