'Chuck' Clayton

Longtime Groveland resident Charles "Chuck" Clayton McDowell died Saturday at his home. He was 62.

He was born in Piru, Ventura County, and had lived in Groveland since 1973. He worked for the California Department of Forestry for 36 years and retired with a rank of captain B. He was stationed at the Groveland Fire Station for most of his career.

His family said he was an avid reader, Civil War and World War II buff and interested in Mountain Man Rendezvous.

He had numerous friends in CDF, his family added, and was well loved by his family and many friends.

Mr. McDowell is survived by his wife, Lucretia "Pat" McDowell of Groveland; a daughter, Gwennie Lee McDowell; a brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Jennifer McDowell; a sister, Adena Rae Bernstein; four stepdaughters and their spouses; a stepson-in-law; many step grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and many grand nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter.

No services are planned.

Edward Zankiewicz

James Edward Zankiewicz, son-in-law of Don and Marilyn Ehrreich of Copperopolis, died Sunday at a Sonora hospital of natural causes. He was 53.

He was born in Crescent City, Del Norte County, and lived in San Jose for 40 years. He visited his family in Copperopolis frequently. He worked as a liquor/beer/wine salesman for nearly 20 years.

He served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Vietnam War.

His family said he loved the San Francisco 49ers, drag racing, NASCAR, cooking and barbecuing. He loved people and was a true people person, his family added, and he was a warm, compassionate man who loved to make people laugh.

Mr. Zankiewicz is survived by his wife of 17 years, Susan Ehrreich-Zankiewicz of San Jose; a son, Eric Zankiewicz of San Jose; his mother, Johnette Zankiewicz of San Jose; parents-in-law, Don and Marilyn Ehrreich of Copperopolis; a brother-in-law, Mark Ehrreich, and his wife, Joanie, of Lakeville, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Debra Benedict, and her husband, Bill, of Plant City, Fla.; nieces, Michelle Ehrreich of Lakeville and Kristy Benedict of Plant City; nephews, Joshua Benedict of Plant City and Joey and Tommy Ehrreich of Lakeville.

A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Timothy's Lutheran Church, 5100 Camden Ave., in San Jose.

(Shadwell) Husar

Longtime Angels Camp resident Macy (Shadwell) Husar died April 3 at a Sonora hospital. She was 87.

She was born in Redding and lived in Angels Camp for 23 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Native Daughters of the Golden West, San Francisco Chapter.

She is survived by her daughter, Raven Smith of Phillipsville, Humboldt County.

A memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday at Angels Memorial Chapel. For more information, call 736-0289.

FREY Pauline Renon Frey, 74, of Angels Camp died Saturday at a San Andreas hospital. Visitation is scheduled from noon to 5 p.m. tomorrow at Angels Memorial Chapel. A rosary is scheduled for 7 p.m. tomorrow at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Angels Camp. San Andreas Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
