'Michael' Burns

April 11, 1951 - March 31, 2004

Longtime Sonora resident Thomas "Michael" Burns died Wednesday at a Sonora hospital after a short illness. He was 52.

He was born in Hot Springs, Ark., and lived in Sonora for 19 years. He worked as a machine operator for the Fox River Paper Co. in Ripon for eight years.

His family said he was an avid fisherman who loved metal detecting and camping on the beach. He was a kind, loving man and father and born-again Christian, his family said.

Mr. Burns is survived by his ex-wife and friend, Carla Burns of Sonora; a son, Eric Burns of Sonora; daughters, Erin Burns of Fresno, Ryann Burns of Modesto and Renee Van Winkle of Los Gatos; stepmother, Evelyn Burns of Ceres; and a brother, Nick Burns of Ceres.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. tomorrow at Heuton Memorial Chapel.

The family plans to set up a memorial fund at Central California Bank's downtown Sonora branch.

Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
