'Margaret' Lyons

April 7, 1914 - March 20, 2004

Former Sonora resident Edna "Margaret" Lyons died Saturday at a Beaverton, Ore., care home. She was 89.

She was born in Parlier, Fresno County, and had lived in Sonora for 18 years. She was an educator, farmer, hunter, sportswoman, artist and musician. She entertained many friends at her homes in Los Gatos, where she lived for about 30 years, and Sonora before moving to Beaverton in May 2003.

She is survived by her sisters, Barbara Jean Lawrence of Sun City West, Ariz., and Dona Dean McNeil of Tigard, Ore.; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Linwood Lee "Bud" Lyons, in 1982.

Finley-Sunset Hills Mortuary in Portland, Ore., is handling arrangements.


Martinez Sabala

April 16, 1935 - March 24, 2004

Luis Martinez Sabala of Twain Harte died Wednesday at his home. He was 68.

He was born in Robstown, Texas, and had lived in Twain Harte for six years. He worked as an automotive detailer for 30 years. He was an active member of the Tuolumne United Methodist Church.

His family said he was a Christian man who was outgoing and enjoyed gardening.

Mr. Sabala is survived by his wife, Evangelina Sabala of San Jose; a son, John Sabala of San Jose; a daughter, Naomi Castillo Llamas of San Jose; his mother, Mercedes Zavala of Robstown; a brother; a sister; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled from 4-6 p.m. today at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home. A church service is scheduled for 2 p.m. tomorrow at Tuolumne United Methodist Church.

LeRoy Spruner

Oct. 27, 1924 - March 23, 2004

Longtime Twain Harte resident Donald LeRoy Spruner died Tuesday at his home. He was 79.

He was born in Chicago and lived in Twain Harte for 25 years. He worked for Pacific Telephone now SBC for 33 years in directory advertising sales. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a B-17 pilot. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Twain Harte and the Knights of Columbus.

His family said he also loved traveling.

Mr. Spruner is survived by his daughter, Donna Coggan of Murphys; a brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Pat Spruner of Twain Harte; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gene, in August of 2001.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at noon Monday at All Saints Catholic Church in Twain Harte.
