Carl R. McBride

Former longtime Sonora resident Carl R. McBride died Feb. 10 at a South Carolina hospital. He was 79.

He was a native of Long Beach and had lived in Sonora from 1926-1945. He retired after 20 years with the U.S. Postal Service and retired from the U.S. Air Force Re-serves. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

He was a member of Providence Presbyterian Church, the Elks Lodge, the American Legion, and was a Mason, all in South Carolina.

Mr. McBride is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, C. Ray and Debbie McBride of Irmo, S.C.; a daughter, Gayle Thomas of Mason, Mich.; a brother, Robert McBride of Sonora; a sister, Phyllis Mayfield of Fresno; and grandchildren, Corey, Katelyn and Chad Thomas, all of Mason.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Etoile Mutzner; and a brother, Gerald McBride.

Services were held Feb. 12 in South Carolina.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Memory Gardens, in care of The Magnolias of Easley, 123 Couch Lane, Easley, S.C., 29642.

Robinson Funeral Home in South Carolina is handling arrangements.

Brenda Uphoff

June 10, 1952 March 2, 2004

Longtime Sonora resident Brenda Uphoff died suddenly Tuesday at her home. She was 51.

She was born in Oakland and had lived in Sonora for 22 years. She was a self-employed owner and operator of a cleaning business for eight years.

She attended Christian Heights Church in Sonora and loved to garden and paint.

She is survived by her husband, David Uphoff of Sonora; a son, Doug Mendez of Sonora; daughters Anne Marie Hobbs of Germany and Kellie Uphoff of Sonora; and her mother, Elaine Bowles of Sonora.

A private family service is scheduled.

Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
