Louise M. Spurgeon of Tuolumne died Tuesday at her home. She was 71.

She had lived in Tuolumne for two years. She worked as a self-employed licensed day care provider for more than 40 years, and was one of the first licensed in-home day care providers in Stockton, her family said.

She enjoyed gold panning, rock hunting, camping, deer watching, gardening, birds, animals and trips to Hawaii, her family added, but most of all she enjoyed time with her family.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Donna Bilger-Keller and Phillip Keller of Tuolumne and Debra and Steven Strain of Stockton; a son, Harold John Dew of Newport Beach; stepsons Richard Rash Jr. of Tuolumne, Steven Spurgeon and his wife, Mary, and Warren "Butch" Spurgeon, all of Stockton, and Ronald Spurgeon of Oregon; granddaughters Amanda Strain of Redding, Annelise Bilger of Davis and Samantha Strain of Stockton; a grandson, Steven Strain of Stockton; a great-grandson, Brandon Michael Strain of Stockton; and her dogs, Missy and Benson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren H. Spurgeon, in 2002.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, March 20, at Soulsbyville United Methodist Church. Burial is scheduled at Carters Cemetery.

Julia Rose Palmer

Julia Rose Palmer of Sonora died unexpectedly Friday, Feb. 27, at her home. She was 24.

She was born in Glenburn and was delivered by her father. She moved to Sonora in 1993 and graduated from high school in 1998.

Her family said she loved to write poetry and spend time with her twin daughters.

She is survived by her twin daughters, Heaven and Haliegh Huckaby of Sonora; her mother and stepfather, Charmaine and Ed Hutchison of Sonora; her father, Michael Palmer of Sonora; brothers Bernard Denney of Boca Raton, Fla., Justin Palmer of Turlock and Freddie Matias of Sonora; a niece, Daytona Denney; nephews Austin Palmer of Fair Oaks, Sacramento County, Tristan Palmer of Turlock and Johnnie Denney of Boca Raton; and a large, extended family and friends.

No services are scheduled. Family and friends will gather today at the Hutchisons' home.

A trust fund is set up on behalf of Heaven and Haliegh Huckaby at Westamerica Bank in Sonora.

Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

'Dick' L. Thibault

Former longtime Sonora resident Dr. Richard "Dick" L. Thibault died Wednesday, Feb. 25, at a Citrus Heights care home. He was 78.

He was born in Oregon, Ill., and had been a longtime resident of Orangevale. He lived in Sonora for 23 years.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and attended the University of California, Irvine, California College of Medicine.

He practiced anesthesia at Twin Lakes Hospital in the Sacramento area for 15 years, and later worked for 14 years for the California Department of Corrections. He worked for two years in Susanville, and for 12 years as chief medical officer at Sierra Conservation Center in Jamestown.

His family said he was known as a sensitive, warm man who was full of fun and had a great sense of humor.

Dr. Thibault is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary; a son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Heidi Thibault; daughters and son-in-law Pam and Steve Hinote, Amy and Alan Wilbur, and Laurie and Ralph Westbrook; four grandchildren, Kerry, Leah, Austen and Elissa; a brother, Robert; a sister, Georgene; five nephews; six nieces; cousins; many friends; and his dog Chippo.

No services are scheduled at his request. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Wilbur L. Watkins

Aug. 13, 1929 Feb. 28, 2004

Wilbur L. Watkins of Sonora died Saturday at his home. He was 74.

He was born in San Francisco and had lived in Sonora since July 2003. He served in the U.S. Air Force.

He worked as an art teacher for Sunnyvale High School for 20 years. He received a medal for Poet of Honor in 2002.

He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon at San Jose State University. He was an artist and a yachtsman.

Mr. Watkins is survived by his sons, Brad L. Watkins of Watsonville, Joshua J. Watkins of San Diego and Rodger A. Watkins of El Dorado; daughters Valerie Greenlee of Altaville and Ashley Watkins of San Diego; a sister, Helen Wheeler of Oregon; and seven grandchildren.

A service will be held at a later date.

ALDRICH Service times have been changed for Robert Earl Aldrich of Valley Springs. Visitation is scheduled from noon to 5 p.m. today at San Andreas Memorial Chapel. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. tomorrow at the chapel. Burial will be at Independence Cemetery in Rail Road Flat. Mr. Aldrich, 46, died Wednesday at a San Andreas hospital.
