Mary Frances 'Pete' or 'Mit' Petrisevac

Longtime Tuolumne County resident Mary Frances Petrisevac died Jan. 1 at a Sonora hospital. She was 91.

She was born in Grayville, Ill., and lived in Columbia from 1960-78 and in Sonora since 1995. Her father worked for railroads while she was growing up.

She worked as a furniture buyer for 12 years for Sears and Roebuck in Oakland. She also drove an ice truck in Florida, worked at Sierra Laundry in Sonora and was a buyer for H.C. Capwell in Oakland.

Her family said she loved drawing, was an artist all her life and won many awards for her art. At one time she worked with Al Capp, a well-known cartoonist, who gave her art lessons. She also was a commercial artist and worked for Foster and Kaiser Billboards in Los Angeles. She worked as a costume designer in the film industries in Los Angeles for six years.

She enjoyed archery, bowling and making quilts, which she would donate to auctions to raise money for senior projects or to help others in need.

She is survived by a son, Wayne Petrisevac of Redding; three daughters, Joyce Lynn Nobles of Idaho, Bettie Joe Noble of Columbia and Karen Ann Graham of Richmond, Va.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, a brother, and by her husband, George Petrisevac.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Jane Louise Ellis

Longtime Tuolumne County resident Jane Louise Ellis died Wednesday at a Sonora hospital. She was 80.

She was born in Kaylor, N.M., and lived in Sierra Village for many years, where she cooked for the Twain Harte-Long Barn School District for more than 25 years.

After her retirement, she and her husband moved to Jamestown and lived there for 15 years.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Roy Ellis of Jamestown; a son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Bonnie Ellis of Sonora; two daughters, Joyce Larson of Oregon and Bonnie Owen of Denair; three sisters, Mildred McDonough, Alice Waller and Lois Hughes, all of Washington; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Audry.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Humane Society of Tuolumne County, P.O. Box 830, Jamestown, CA 95327, or any favorite charity.

A chapel service is scheduled for 11 a.m. tomorrow at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at Mountain Shadow Cemetery.

LeRoy 'Roy' E. Terzich

Sept. 3, 1916 Jan. 8, 2004

Former Sonora resident LeRoy "Roy" E. Terzich died Thursday at an Albuquerque, N.M., hospital. He was 87.

He was born and raised in Sonora, and was a B-17 pilot in World War II. He flew 30 missions over Germany and continued his flying career through 1950 out of the Phillipines. He served in the U.S. Air Force and retired as a captain in September 1966 while in Anchorage, Alaska. He then worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Anchorage until he retired 17 years later.

Mr. Terzich is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Dave Bailey of Fort Worth, Texas, and Diane and Steve Moore of Sandia Park, N.M.; a son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Laureen Terzich of Castroville, Texas; six grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen, in 1996; a son, Gary Terzich, in 1990; and his grandson, Steven Terzich, in 1989.

No services are scheduled.

Luella Emiline Kraft

Nov. 12, 1914 Jan. 4, 2004

Luella Emiline Kraft of Arnold died Jan. 4 at a Sonora hospital. She was 89.

She was born in Newark and lived there for 89 years. She lived in Arnold for the past couple of months.

She was a homemaker, and had been an observer for the Army Air Force IV Fighter Command during World War II.

Her family said she loved flower gardening, was family oriented and loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Debbie Kraft of Arnold; two grandchildren, Jason Kraft of Delhi and Amy Kraft of Vacaville; two great-grandchildren, Sessyrina and Alexandria Kraft, both of Vacaville; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar J. Kraft, in 1984.

A service is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward.

Marion Rose Merrihew

Dec. 8, 1915 Jan. 5, 2004

Longtime Sonora resident Marion Rose Merrihew died Jan. 5 at a Pleasant Hill care home. She was 88.

She was born in Sonora to Fred and Lucy (Silva) Pease and was a fourth-generation descendant of the Pease family, who settled in the Wards Ferry area in the 1850s. She was the third oldest of 10 children. She was raised in Sonora and graduated from Sonora Elementary School and Sonora High School.

She worked as a secretary for James Hardin and Urban Halliday.

Her hobbies included sewing and cooking, her family said.

She is survived by two daughters, Marlene Englund of Walnut Creek and Marcia Fernandes of Las Vegas; four grandchildren, Darren Englund of San Francisco, Brett Englund of Concord, Shawn Fernandes of Portland, Ore., and Danielle Fernandes of Las Vegas; four sisters, Dorothy Murbach of Pleasant Hill, Marjorie Merrick of Rancho Cordova, Wilma Marion of Jamestown and Vivian Peterson of Sonora; and numerous step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Merrihew, and stepsons, Darryl and Gary Merrihew.

No services are scheduled.

Betty J. O'Shaughnessy

Betty J. O'Shaughnessy of Jamestown died Thursday at a Sonora hospital. She was 73.

She was born in Watsonville and had lived in Jamestown for 16 years. She was a homemaker for 53 years.

Her family said she enjoyed working in her garden, taking care of her cats, playing bingo and collecting dolls and stuffed animals. She was kind and caring to everyone she met, her family added.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas O'Shaughnessy of Jamestown; two sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy and Shari O'Shaughnessy of Kaunakakai, Hawaii, and James and Pamela O'Shaughnessy of Sonora; a brother, Eugene Bridwell; grandsons and their spouses, Mike and Angela Brunton of Sonora, Jason and Cori Brunton of Columbia, Fred and Amber Brunton of Sacramento and Simeon and Sunday Hauchett of Hawaii; and seven great-grandchildren, Elaine, Dawson and Jayken all of Sonora, Alexis of Columbia, Makila and Damian, both of Sacramento, and Joshua Hauchett of Hawaii.

A graveside service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Jamestown City Cemetery.

O'BRIEN A graveside service for Jessie O'Brien, 98, of Sonora is scheduled for 2 p.m. tomorrow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Lafayette, Contra Costa County. A memorial service will be held at a later date. She died Saturday at a Sonora hospital. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

VINCENT Grace Vincent, 83, of Sonora died yesterday at a Sonora hospital. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

WALLER Victor Day and his family would like to invite people to a celebration of life for Sharon Waller, 52, of Twain Harte, scheduled for 6 p.m. tomorrow at Tuolumne Rancheria Tribal Hall. She died Jan. 5 at a Sonora hospital after a short illness. For details on the gathering/potluck, contact Valerie Day-Burciaga at 928-3475.
