Lowell L. Martin

Former longtime Tuolumne County resident Lowell L. Martin died Monday at a Stevensville, Mont., care home. He was 86.

He was born in El Portal to Jerome and Rose Martin. He moved to Sonora at age 3 and attended Sonora schools. He lived in Groveland from 1922-23, and then a few months in Oakdale. He moved to Modesto, where he graduated from Modesto High School. In 1937, he married Enid A. Tash.

He was self-employed and owned Martin's Service Station & Garage in Modesto and in Sierra Village. He retired to Coulterville, where he lived for 20 years. He later moved to Montana.

His family said he loved hunting and fishing.

Mr. Martin is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Mel Price of Stevensville, Mont.; sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Joanne Martin of Twain Harte, Frank and Linda Martin of Florence, Mont., and Jon and Meloney Martin of Modesto; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife.

Alma S. McKay

Longtime Avery resident Alma S. McKay died Nov. 26 at a Jackson hospital. She was 86.

She was born in Gustine and lived in Avery for 20 years and in Douglas Flat for 30 years. She worked as a bookkeeper.

She was a member of Native Daughters of the Golden West in Murphys, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2600 Women's Auxiliary in San Andreas, and Soroptimist International.

Her family said she loved her family and gardening.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol Bush of Douglas Flat; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; a nephew, George Silva of Stockton; and friend, Ellen Boone of Avery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mack McKay, in 1978.

At her request, no services are scheduled.

Thomas W. Graham, father of Christine Myers of Sonora, died Nov. 25 at his home in Hayward. He was 76.

He lived in Alameda County for 50 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was given a Medal of Honor.

His family said he loved to sing and had a beautiful voice.

Mr. Graham is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Christine and Frank S. Myers of Sonora and Carol and Mike Williams of Newark; sons and daughters-in-law, Brad and Pam Graham of Oakley and Daniel and Trisha Graham of Hayward; grandchildren, Nichole and Christopher Shepard of Sonora, Brad Graham, who is in the U.S. Army, Aaron Graham of Oakley and Desiree Meligro of Brentwood; and great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Joshua and Danika Meligro of Brentwood.

Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward is handling arrangements.
