Carlo Joseph Fagnani

Longtime Sonora resident Carlo Joseph Fagnani died Saturday at a Sonora hospital. He was 86.

He was born and raised in San Rafael and had lived in Sonora since 1940. He graduated from San Rafael High School and married his high school sweetheart, Carol Moran.

He operated a Union Gas Station and then moved to Richmond, where he was a shipfitter until he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

After the service, he lived in Twain Harte, working at the Jones Sawmill in Soulsbyville. He also worked at Sierra Materials and Twain Harte Elementary School. He later moved to Sonora, where he worked at Sonora High School in the maintenance department until his retirement.

Mr. Fagnani is survived by his wife, Carol Fagnani of Sonora; sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Thelma Fagnani of San Francisco and Rick and Virginia Fagnani of Sonora; a daughter and son-in-law, Sherre and David Cain of San Diego; a sister, Beatrice Gooch of Fairfield; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two cousins; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home.

Catherine Louise (Beauregard) Field

Longtime Tuolumne County resident Catherine Louise (Beauregard) Field died Sunday at a Sonora hospital. She was 86.

She was born in Fort Collins, Colo., and lived in Sonora. She was one of nine children born to Thomas and Dora Alway. She moved to California with her first husband, Zephere Beauregard, and worked as a secretary for the Los Angeles Unified School District and the Santa Monica Unified School District. In 1976, she moved to Tuolumne County, where she worked in the patient business office at Sonora Community Hospital until her retirement. In 1985, she met and married her second husband, Elmo Field.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Susan Beauregard of Sonora; a granddaughter, Stacey Beauregard of Exeter, England; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by by her first husband, Zephere Beauregard, in 1960; a son, Clifford Beauregard, in 1989; and her second husband, Elmo Field, in 1997.

No services are scheduled.

Johnny R. Martin

March 23, 1955 Oct. 20, 2003

Longtime Sonora resident Johnny R. Martin died Monday at a Sonora hospital after a long illness. He was 48.

He was born in Casa Grande, Ariz. He lived in Sonora for 31 years and worked as a timber faller for Set 1 Falling for 25 years. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Jamestown and a union member of Pickering Lumber Co. of Sonora.

His family said he enjoyed hunting, fishing and mechanics.

Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Crystal Martin of Sonora; his father, T.R. Martin of Sonora; sons and daughter-in-law, Tim and Amber Martin of Tuolumne and John Martin of Sonora; brothers and sister-in-law, Steve Martin and Kevin and Cindy Martin, all of Sonora; sisters, Cheryl Olveira and Belinda Zanoni, both of Sonora, and Eva Oaks of Clearlake; a grandson, Ethan Martin of Tuolumne; niece, Rachelle Martin; and nephews, Randy and Ross Martin.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Jamestown.

Margaret 'Peggy' Mary Notch

June 30, 1925 Oct. 18, 2003

Longtime Sugar Pine resident Margaret "Peggy" Mary Notch died Saturday at a Sonora hospital. She was 78.

She was born in Sydney, Australia, and lived in Sugar Pine for 30 years. She lived in the East Bay area for 20 years prior to living in Sugar Pine. She was on the first ship carrying women to visit their husbands in Japan during World War II. She worked as an office manager for the Social Security Administration for 20 years, and for more than 30 years with the civil service.

Her family said she traveled all over the world.

She is survived by her sons, Michael and Mark Mendoza, both of Sugar Pine and Max Mendoza of Sydney, Australia; a daughter, Monique Hickey of New York; four grandchildren, Miriam Mendoza of Amsterdam, Holland, Jake Mendoza of Sydney, Australia, and Megan and Ellen Hickey, both of New York; and five stepchildren.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Julio Mendoza and Maurice Notch.

A memorial Mass was to be held today at All Saints Catholic Church in Twain Harte. Inurnment will be tomorrow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Oakland.

CONNICK Arthur Connick, 83, of Groveland died yesterday at his home. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

CAIN Philip H. Cain, 82, of the Burson area died Tuesday at his home. A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. tomorrow at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in San Andreas. San Andreas Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
