Delsie L. Julien

Former longtime Tuolumne County resident Delsie L. Julien died at a Pennsylvania hospital. She was 77.

She was born in Arcata to Charles H. and Esther M. Kanen.

She met Jack Julien at Livingston High School, and they were married on June 1, 1946, at the foot of Bridal Veil Falls in Yosemite.

She was an alumna of the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of California, San Francisco, School of Nursing.

She and her husband moved to Tuolumne County 48 years ago, and he began a dental practice.

She served as a school nurse for 11 years for Tuolumne County schools and was a retired registered nurse and public health nurse.

Her family said she enjoyed her family and friends, playing the piano, listening to music, reading and walking. One of her favorite pieces of music was Grieg's Piano Concerto in A Minor, her family added.

She is survived by her husband of more than 57 years, Dr. Jack H. Julien; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Lynnell, John and Shelly, and Philip and Kathryn Julien; daughters and son-in-law, Laura and William Richardson and Janis Julien; 19 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Garth Kanen.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at Oak Hill Presbyterian Church, 14892 Peaceful Valley Road in Sonora.

Kathyrn 'Kay' C. Phillips

Former Hathaway Pines resident Kathyrn "Kay" C. Phillips died Sunday at a Modesto care home. She was 84.

She was born in Oklahoma and lived in Modesto for three years. She previously lived in Hathaway Pines for 30 years and Stockton for 30 years. She was a homemaker and a former member of Stagg High School PTA and the Order of Eastern Star Golden Poppy Chapter in Stockton.

She is survived by her husband, Lee Phillips of Modesto; a daughter, Sue Nichols of Hathaway Pines; four grandchildren, Matthew Phillips of Thornton, Colo., Mark Fields of Modesto, Grady Fields of Danville and Mike Fields of Marshfield, Mass.; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled at noon tomorrow at the Church of the Cross, 3936 Dale Road in Modesto.
