Eileen Katherine 'Nonie' Pomeroy

Longtime Sonora resident Eileen Katherine "Nonie" Pomeroy died Friday at a Sonora care home. She was 85.

She was born in La Crosse, Wis., and lived in Sonora for 25 years. She was a retired nursery school teacher and also worked with handicapped children.

At the age of 80, she took up watercolor painting. She collected Indian dolls, wolves and bells. Her family said she loved playing the piano.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Steve Palhegyi of Sonora; a son, Pete Pomeroy of Sonora; grandchildren and their spouses, Michael and Kim Palhegyi of Elko, Nev., and Rick and Margeley "Marge" Palhegyi of Modesto; and two great-grandchildren, Ricky and Marlayna Palhegyi of Modesto.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Bert Hanson, on Dec. 19, 1970.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home. A burial is scheduled at Forest Lawn in Cypress.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95817.

Dorothy Rollins

Jan. 3, 1927 Sept. 14, 2003

Longtime Sonora resident Dorothy Rollins died Sunday at a Sonora hospital. She was 76.

She was born in Hartselle, Ala., and lived in Sonora for 37 years. She worked as a sales clerk for All State Insurance for 12 years.

She was a member of Tuolumne Star Chapter Order of the Eastern Star No. 123 and Republican Women.

Her friends said she faithfully attended Sonora City Council meetings and had excellent ideas. She loved Sonora and the people here, her friends added. Her friends said she enjoyed going to the farmer's market each Saturday and visiting with her friends.

She is survived by her stepdaughter, Pamela Schaefer; friends, Bonnie Delnero and neighbor Malcolm Maxwell, both of Sonora; and many other close friends.

No services are scheduled at her request. Burial will be at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Marion O. Shearer

Aug. 1, 1906 Sept. 10, 2003

Marion O. Shearer of Jamestown died Wednesday at her home. She was 97.

She was born in Oakland and lived in Jamestown for more than seven years. She graduated from Alhambra High School in 1925, and from San Francisco State Teacher's College, where she earned her teaching credential. She taught elementary school in Avon, Riverbank, Livingston, Hilmar and Knights Ferry, where she was a teacher and principal. She retired in 1972.

Her family said she loved teaching and community service. She and her husband, Vincent, were active in their community. She was a member of St. Matthias Episcopal Church, Native Daughters of the Golden West, Order of the Eastern Star and and the Rebekah Lodge. She also was a member of the Knights Ferry Community Club, Knights Ferry Historical Society and a charter member of Knights Ferry Garden Club.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Lee A. and Mary Sue Shearer of Knights Ferry; a daughter and son-in-law, Jean S. and Harvey S. Hickey of Jamestown; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Patricia and Andy Sandoval of Oakdale, Susan and Jeffrey Fitzwater of Sonora, Cindy and Neil Davis of Modesto, James Hickey of Olympia, Wash., Victoria and Scott Krippner of Modesto, Robert and Teri Hickey of Jamestown, Jeffrey Shearer of Red Bluff and Christopher and Cheri Hickey of Jamestown; 17 great-grandchildren, Joselyn Carr, Joshua, Matthew and Sean Fitzwater, Gwyn Davis, Elina, Teresa, Nayomie, Adrianna, Robert, Andrew, Austin and Gabrielle Hickey, Alexander and Claire Krippner, Shelby Hitchman and Rand Kavanaugh.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent L. Shearer, who was born and raised in Tuolumne County.

Services were held. Burial was at Knights Ferry Cemetery.

Betty E. Morgan

Nov. 8, 1935 Sept. 12, 2003

Longtime Sonora resident Betty E. Morgan died Friday in the Twain Harte area. She was 67.

She was born in Holly, Colo., and lived in Sonora for 23 years. She worked as a warehouse supervisor at Sierra Conservation Center for 10 years.

Her family said she loved her grandchildren and gardening.

She is survived by her husband, James Morgan of Sonora; sons and daughter-in-law, Chris and Sharon Morgan of Murrieta and Jeffrey Morgan of Sonora; a sister, Wanda Tourney of Las Cruces, N.M.; and five grandchildren, Jamie, Cable, Ayjiah, Sterling and Daq Bushu, all of Quartz Hill, Los Angeles County.

No services are scheduled.

Glenda K. Hardie

July 4, 1950 Sept. 13, 2003

Glenda K. Hardie of Copperopolis died unexpectedly Saturday at a Sonora hospital. She was 53.

She was born in Scotia, Humboldt County, and lived in Copperopolis for nine years. She worked as a self-employed homemaker for 33 years.

She is survived by her husband, Roger Hardie of Copperopolis; a son, Jeff Hardie of Susanville; brothers, Gale Lee, Gary and Greg Klinetobe, all of Fortuna; and grandchildren Nathan, Nakita and Edward Hardie, all of Susanville.

No services are scheduled.
