Ronald Paul Hirschman

Ronald Paul Hirschman died Thursday at his residence in Sonora. He was 73.
He was born in Oakland and grew up in the east Bay area. He was a graduate of Hayward High School. He lived in Sonora since 1984. He was former owner of the El Rancho Lounge in Castro Valley for 30 years. He was an Army veteran and served in the Korean War.
His family said he was a loving father and husband. He enjoyed family, golfing and all sports, his family added.
Mr. Hirschman is survived by his wife, Mary Hirschman of Sonora; a daughter, Nanci Cearnal of Texas; three sons, Ron Hirschman of Rancho Murieta, Tony Lizarraga of Danville and Steve Lizarraga of Turlock; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Hirschman, in 1997, a son, Michael Lizarraga in Vietnam, and a brother, Ray Hirschman.
A funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. tomorrow at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home. A private family visitation is scheduled.

Clyde Lafayette Mitchell

Clyde Lafayette Mitchell of Twain Harte died Wednesday at a Sonora care home. He was 92.
He was born in Louisiana and grew up on his parents' farm in Kingsland, Ark. He left after graduating from high school.
He lived in San Antonio and then served in the U.S. Army for two years. In the Army, he was trained to be a mechanic. After serving in the Army, he worked at Kelly Air Force Base, where he was an airplane mechanic. He was in charge of large crews during World War II. He and his crew set a world record for taking out and replacing an entire engine in 45 minutes on a pilot's trainer plane.
He retired from Kelly Air Force Base and enjoyed his leisure years, his family said. He moved to Southern California in 1995 to live with his daughter and son-in-law, Gwen and Carl Ermert. In 2000, he moved to Sonora to be close to his daughter, Gwendolyn Ermert.
Mr. Mitchell is survived by his children, Gwendolyn Ermert of Twain Harte, Jerry Mitchell of San Antonio, Jan Mitchell of Las Vegas, and Evelyn Mitchell of Richmond; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Connie, in 1995.
No funeral services are planned. Visitation was held Saturday.
