Wendell W. Aby

Long Barn resident Wendell W. Aby died Monday at a Sonora hospital. He was 81.

He was born in Macon, Ill., and lived in Long Barn for 25 years. He was a self-employed painter for 25 years. He served in the Marine Corps from 1942-45.

His family said he loved painting and gardening.

Mr. Aby is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Janis and Gene Holland of Twain Harte; a son, Leonard Aby of Long Barn; a brother, Maxwell Aby of Clearlake; five granddaughters, Megan, Jennifer, Laurie and Rebecca Holland, all of Twain Harte, and Kimberly Aby of Arizona; and two grandsons, Timothy Holland of Twain Harte and Michael Aby of Arizona.

A graveside service is scheduled for 11 a.m. tomorrow at Los Gatos Memorial Park in San Jose. Burial is scheduled at Los Gatos Memorial Park.

Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Kathleen Vivian (Wilkins) Avril

Longtime Calaveras County resident Kathleen Vivian (Wilkins) Avril died Tuesday at a Modesto hospital. She was 85.

She was born in California and lived in Calaveras County for 30 years, most recently in Murphys.

She worked as an electronic aeronautical technician with Lockheed Aircraft. Her family said she was proud of her work on the first space flight. She was a member of American Association of Retired Persons and Calaveras Seniors, and served on the Board of M.P.O.A., a neighborhood association in Arnold.

She is survived by her cousins, Lois Wilkins Grosenbaugh and Harold J. Wilkins; and many other cousins and friends.

A graveside service is scheduled for 4 p.m. Monday at the Buena Vista Cemetery in Murphys.

Memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, 207 E. Alpine Ave., Stockton, CA 95204-3405 for Calaveras and San Joaquin counties, or to the American Cancer Society, 1604 Ford Ave., Suite 8, Modesto, CA 95350 for Tuolumne County.

Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.


NORTHROP A potluck reception will be held in memory of Kathy Northrop tomorrow at the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Posse Grounds, 19130 Rawhide Road. The reception will follow a 10 a.m. funeral service at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home in Sonora. Mrs. Northrop died Tuesday at her Soulsbyville home, one year after being diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor.

WHITMAN Lucile Whitman, 88, of Sonora died yesterday at a Sonora health-care home. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
